Except for Friday February 13 when we will join the Berkeley Folk
Dancers as they host Da! Mozhem, you are most welcome to dance with
the East Bay Folkdancers every Friday from 7:30 to 10 PM (including
tomorrow and the Friday after that).
We meet in Piedmont,
beside Oakland, at the spacious Veterans Memorial Hall, 401 Highland
Ave, corner of Vista Ave. (A Bank of America is on that corner, and just
south on Vista is a small lot you can park in beside a Mulberry Market.)
The dances we do are mainly Balkan, but they extend as well to Israel,
Greece, Hungary, Turkeey, Armenia, and Albania, with frequent forays
beyond.
The dances played are entirely by request, so if you have dances you
would like to do, just come with their names. The evening begins with
simple dances that all can do, but includes intermediate and advanced
dances later on. We are always ready to help newcomers pick out requests
they might enjoy, and guide them in learning dances.
Half-hour teaching sessions take place occasionally and will be announced in advance.
The cost is $5, with the first night free. Dancers are assumed to
have been vaccinated and boosted, and masks are optional.
We are a dedicated and welcoming dance community with an unbroken history
of meeting since dancing on the lawn on the UC Berkeley campus in the
early 1960s. It is organized as a collective without specific leaders.
You might want to get on our weekly mailing list, which announces
upcoming teaching sessions, special events and the very occasional
Friday that the Veterans Hall is not available to us. A contact person
is Lenny Talmy:

Hope to see you dancing with us!
