March. Durham. Be There! Three Full Days of Unique Dance, Music, & Cultural Exchange: March 5-8 in Durham, North Carolina.

Plan to arrive at the conference in time for the Welcome Reception on Thursday evening!
Friday morning starts out with the NFO Annual Membership Meeting. Friday afternoon and the rest of the weekend will be filled with presentations, workshops, performances, and parties, culminating in the final dance party on Sunday night.
You are welcome to join us Monday morning, March 9th, for the post-conference debrief.

Appalachian focused presenters:

Phil Jamison - dancer, researcher

Sheila Kay Adams - traditional story-teller and ballad singer/leader

Ben Owen III - Seagrove, NC potter with a broad family tradition living in a pottery rich area.

Apple Chill Cloggers - Will perform on Friday evening, dancers who clog with taps and without

Blue Star Travellers - band who will play for Apple Chill Cloggers and for dancing Friday evening led by cloggers? and Phil Jamison

Andrew Walker - Appalachian music teacher for the extra music classes and will lead music Sunday evening and lead the student musicians playing what they learned in the fiddle classes. Additionally he has invited Kilby Spencer and Kelley Breiding musicians to play for Sun eve and Andrew, Kilby and Kelley MAY lead a discussion on their specific and local music traditions

Triangle Shape Note Singers - Although shape note singing originated in New England, the tradition is also prevalent in the Appalachians

Balkan focused presenters:

Erik Bendix - teaching 2 distinct Balkan dance workshops on Saturday, reviewing the dances on Sunday AND teaching/leading us all in Yiddish/Klezmer dances at the Saturday evening party

Bandana Klezmer - will play for the Saturday night Yiddish/Klezmer part of the evening.

Daniela Stoyanova - folk-craft will teach us how to make Martinitsi

Other presenters:

Debby Szajnberg - will talk about her book - Global rhythm games and we will participate/dance/move to some of them.
