Alasdair White & Ross Martin: Scottish fiddle music
Tuesday, Feb 24 7:30pm
Two of Scotland’s finest traditional musicians, Alasdair White and Ross Martin, join
for a rare West Coast duo tour. Though they live on opposite sides of the Atlantic -
White in New York City and Martin in Lochaber - their music is deeply rooted in the
powerful and timeless traditions of the Scottish West coast. As two fifths of Gaelic
supergroup, Dàimh (pronounced ‘Dive’), they bring the same ethos of ’straight in the
eye Highland music’ to a duo setting. Together, they create an expansive musical
partnership that thrives in a live setting - with driving dance tunes and resonant
Gaelic airs that capture the spirit of the Highlands and Islands.
Alasdair White: fiddle
Widely regarded as one of the leading exponents of Scottish music, Alasdair's deeply
rooted yet wide-ranging musicality reflects his Isle of Lewis birthplace, current New York
City home, and over 20 years globe-trotting with some of the best known names in
traditional music including Dàimh and the Battlefield Band.
Ross Martin: guitar
From Arisaig in the West Highlands, renowned guitarist, Ross Martin is probably on
your favorite Scottish album. His distinctive approach to accompaniment - rhythmic,
driving, and full of nuance - has made him a sought-after collaborator and a backbone
of contemporary Scottish traditional music.
