Lon Gordon Stewart, born January 23, 1927, went to be with the Lord on June 2, 2013. Lon married Loretta E. Coffer July 18, 1947. They were married for 66 years. He served in the US Navy during WWII. His wife and six daughters, 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren survive Dr. Stewart. His daughters, Rhea Jones-Trejo of Tucson, AZ; Marcie Frankland of Riverside, MO; Denise Hester of Buckeye, AZ; Melody Bishop of Parker, CO; Teri Gierut of Eugene, OR; and Melissa Stewart of San Francisco, CA will remember him as the best Dad ever!
Before attending Baptist Bible College, Lon was a Detroit police officer for 5 years. He graduated from Baptist Bible College in 1956 and received his PhD from Baptist Christian University in 1975. Lon spent 59 years ministering in the following churches: High Street Baptist Church, Springfield, MO and Kansas City Baptist Temple, Kansas City, MO, as Youth Pastor. Senior Pastor of Messiah Baptist Church, Chicago, IL; Denver Baptist Temple, Denver, CO; and Metro Baptist Church, Kansas City, MO. He founded Temple Baptist Academy and Baptist Bible College West in Denver, CO. Lon and Lorrie also spent one year in England and one in Australia as missionaries.
He touched lives all over the world and will be remembered for his love of music, his sense of humor, love of family, his humility, sincerity and love for God’s Word.
