Ibn Taymiyya: Abdul Wahab Najdi Was Biddati Gumrah...?

Ibn Taymiyya said in his book Iqtida’ Al Sirat Al Mustaqeem (Cairo, al-Fiqqi 1950 edition, pages 294 and 297)
“What some people innovated, either to emulate the Christians who celebrate the birth of `Isa (as) or out of love for the Prophet and in order to exalt him:

Allah MAY reward them for such love and effort but not for the innovations [...]. So one MAY magnify the birthdate of the Prophet upon him blessings and peace, AND treat it as a festival, perhaps obtaining IMMENSE REWARD for it because of his good intentions in honoring the Messenger of Allah.”

(ma yuhdithuhu ba`du al-naasi immaa mudaahaatan lil-nasaara fi meelaadi `Isaa `alayhi as-Salam wa’imma mahabbatan lil- Nabiyyi SallAllahu `alayhi wa Sallam wata`zeeman lahu, wAllaahu qad yutheebuhum `ala haadhihi al-mahabbati wal- ijtihaadi laa `ala al-bida`i [...]. Fata`zeemu al-mawlidi wattikhaadhuhu mawsiman qad yaf`aluhu ba`du al-naasi wayakunu lahu feehi ajrun `azeemun lihusni qasdihi wata`zeemihi lirasulillaah).

This text is found in the 2nd edition (1369/1950) of Muhammad Hamid al-Fiqqi at Cairo’s Matba`at al-Sunnat al-Muhammadiyya.
This is a saying of someone who set fanaticism aside and sought to please Allah and his Prophet . As far as we are concerned, we commemorate the Mawlid for no other reason but what Ibn Taymiya said, “Out of love and veneration of the Prophet.” May Allah reward us according to this love and effort.

It is sad to see how shamelessly people are ready to take our deen and twist and pevert it in order to justify their misguided practices. I pray to Allah that the time comes when people have returned to the pure religion taught by the best of creation and abandoned such bidat.

After the tiresome "wahabi's hate the Propeht" nonsense You get to the MOST important bit that any intelligent Muslim will ask....how did the COMPANIONS who lived and learnt from the Prophet saws himself and loved him the most and followed him in the most perfect manner celebrate his birthday, if at all. The fact is NONE OF THEM, not one chose to single out a day in the year to celebrate his birthday, nor by they way did Abu Haneefa OR his students, or any of the four imams or their students. None of them did this because it was not then as is not now part of our deen.

The best thing I can say about this article is that at least they did not try to invent something and make up some false quote. At least the authors content themselves with taking genuine quotes and misapplying them out of context...ibn Taymiyyah saying that Allah will reward people for their love of the Prophet saws is a classic! He also said that the people who beat him up and sent him to prison will get rewarded if they did it genuinely thinking that is what was pleasing to Allah! Does that mean he was agreeing with being beaten up and imprisioned!

The article TOTALLY failed to deal with the reality of what is bida, which has been warned against again and again by the Prophet saws.

I have always hope that the living in the west and learning to THINK critically at school would ultimately make such supertcious practices defunct, but clearly it hasn't...yet. By they way in the westwhere anyone, even a group of Sikhs could call themselves the Supreme Muslim Council and get away with it.

If you really love the Prophet saws then follow him, don't innovate and change his religion!

He did not celebrate a day in the year for his birthday, nor did his companions, nor did the early generations of this ummah. If it was not deen for them it is not deen for us.

May Allah guide to follow the example of our blessed Prophet saws, to cling to his Sunnah and the Sunnah of the rightly guided khulafaa and be far away from innovations, because every innovation is misguidance and every misguidance is in house fire.

My love for the Prophet and the sahabah is clear from my message to you.

Sufficient is Allah to take you account for your vile lies and accusations against me...but since you are shameless in destroying this wonderful deen and insulting the Prophet and disobeying Allah I am not surprised that you feel no shame in insulting me.
