Today when there are lots of differences among the Muslims themselves and seems low at all level, the only united movement is the movement of the Tablighi Jamaat. This is the largest and the biggest Islamic movement in the world. The number of this movement is in the billions, not millions. The congregation of followers and devotees of this movement are from the villages of India, Pakistan and Bangladesh to London and New York etc.
Millions of people gather in the congregations of this movement in Bangladesh as well as in London. We can see oceans of Muslims in the congregation of this movement in African countries too as we see in Indonesia and Malaysia. A movement which was launched in a small village of Haryana, today it has spread in most of the countries of the world. Today the scope of this movement has widened in India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, USA, UK, Canada, Yemen, former Soviet Union countries, African and European countries too. The movement does the work of preaching in a miraculous way. Many Muslims who were away from Islam has now come closer to Allah and Islam because of this movement. The opponent of this movement has made thousands of attempts to spoil them, but the movement has gone to flourish and became popular among the Muslims. There is nothing like membership and registration in this movement, it is just a voluntary organization of the Muslims for the Muslims. There is nothing in the organization like accounts and maintenance of this movement, still this is a highly organized movement of the group. Even the leaders (aamir) of this movement do not have any idea about the number of its members. The crowd of hundreds of people is coming for the congregation of the movement, but it is a well organized and united movement. The attendees help each other in every possible way voluntarily.
History of Tablighi Jamaat:
The first Markaz (Centre) of Tablighi Jamaat was established in the year 1926 at Bangla Wali Masjid, Nizamuddin in the capital city Delhi. Till then, it was a base of the movement and this movement was born in Mewat in Haryana. It was founded by Late Moulana Mohammed Khandehlavi, who put his sincere efforts and decided a goal for the ummah to reach. There is a large number of Muslims in Mewad who are Rajput Muslims. They reverted to Islam in late medieval period and the reformation of these Muslims were not made. They were living their life in semi-Muslims and semi-Hindu civilization. At that time, a movement called Shudhi movement was started whose goal was to convert the Muslims to Hindus. This movement picked up momentum and at the same time the Britishers too started converting Muslims to Christianity. Some of the Muslims at that time came under their influence and went out of Islam. Islam was surrounded by clouds of threats. In this scenario Hazrat Moulana Mohammed Ilyas Khandehlavi realized the importance of reformation of the Muslims. He left his teaching profession at the Madrasa Mazahiul Uloom Saharanpur and started this reformation movement. He felt that the only way to bring Muslims closer to Allah is that to work on them and give them religious training and by instilling the fear of Allah in them. Therefore, Moulana started reforming the Muslims of Mewad. Later on Moulana started an organized movement called Tablighi Jamaat. They were successful in their aim as the Muslims began to change positively and some of those Muslims, who had earlier gone away from Islam came back to Islam.
