Wondering if anyone has had to remove and repair one of the larger
hatch shades on their 49/50.
I've dropped the four screws in the corners, but can't figure out how
to get the frame down.

Help.

Thanks,

David

David, first here is the phone number and email for OceanAir and a pdf file (attached) from the website for retentioning the spring which can also help if you have to replace the spring which is the same for all three sizes of OceanAir Surface Skyscreens on my B49.

Joe at OceanAir was a great help to me the first time I had a spring fail which is usually the problem as opposed to just retentioning the spring.

The phone number is (802) 362 5258, Joe's email is jo...@oceanairmarine.com.

I just ordered 6 new springs for $8.00 each.  You may also want to get a couple of the corner pieces.  One type has a slot that fits one end of the spring shaft with the flat end and the other type corner piece has a round hole that fits to the end with the round post on the end of the shade or screen roller assembly  (the spring fits into the other end).  Either the tab that covers the screw gets broken or a piece in the inside of the corner piece by the round hole or slot breaks.  And it is the white plastic piece at the flat end of the spring that breaks thus requiring a new spring.

From the photo I have attached you can see a spring that is broken (white plastic) and one of the corners I had to replace that was broken.  If there is a question about the two types of corners I can get the spares out and take a photo from a different angle but you will see what I am talking about when you remove them although you usually just have to remove the corner that fits onto the spring end of the rod.

Since you have already removed the corner screws under the flaps all you have to do is pull the unit down.  There is a liner, you can see my spare in my photo wrapped in plastic, that fits up into the area that was cut out of the ceiling at the hatch.  That liner is what is holding up the SKYSCREEN if the four corner screws are removed although SKYSREENS just came down on their own once I removed the screws.

Joe will be glad to help you with the repair so call him if you still have any questions.

Will have a whirl with these instructions.
The Ocean Air distributor up in Vancouver is useless, so I'll probably
call on Joe, thanks.

More spare parts? We need a spare boat, to carry spare parts...

Thanks
