This thread could go on forever.....
With young kids, that want to tow tubes and skis, fish, prawn and
crab, and get away from parents, we needed a "real dinghy" to keep
them happy. ( The old 10 ft with a 4 hp on the rail wasn't cutting it
anymore)
However with a dry weight of about 550 lbs, at 12 feet long, with a 30
hp four stroke, the problems are as follows.
No chance for the foredeck....
No motor on the rail.
No arch strong enough (Kato wouldn't even try).
Loss of 1 to 1.5 knots towing it....
Only solution was a custom set of Nick Jackson Davits.
I posted an image a while ago, see Dinghy Davits.
Ours is a low rise solution, for coastal waters, that isn't cheap.
It is, however, in the water running in 30-60 seconds....
And your hands don't get dirty, and your back never sore....
Or then again, we could all wait for the twin rudder, rear garage,
that Beneteau missed on the 58, and instead buy a Bavaria 55 or a
Jeanneau 57....

The longshaft 20 is a little to long for our particular RIB but LOVE the arch which got everything up off the deck and out of the way, allows us to easily pick up the dink with or without engine, has work lights for grilling and loading at night, and is even an enhancement for swimming which is big with the kids...
