Not that any of us really ought to care, as we float along in 50 feet
of shelter, but....

In noticing the continuing electrical load on the boat creep up (bread
maker, cap machine, panini press, hair straightener, I felt I had to
take drastic and immediate action.

SO..... I went out and bought a new TV and DVD Receiver. My theory
was fight fire with fire....
You laugh, but hear me out., especially those with washer/dryers.

Out with the old Jamo DVD Receiver (Danish).
In with a new Panasonic 7.1 Blueray DVD Digital Receiver. Not top of
the line for a audiophile, but in a boat, perfect and pretty cheap....
Digital amplification = super low power consumption. 7 small
speakers, and a sub, pack more than enough sound, separation, and
detail, to make most people's heads spin...

Out with the old JVC 32" top of the line LCD (circa 2007, or about
million TV years ago).
In with a new Samsung 32" LED Super Thin. Unbelievable.... Power
consumption is 25% of the JVC.
Picture is spectacular.

So if you have a dislike of tele on the boat I hear you.
If not, dream on.....

Cheers,

David

David,
Sounds like a great setup.  There are not many over the air digital channels so we have been thinking about updating our TV and adding a Blu ray player since it would also upconvert DVDs to 1080P.  I would be interested in knowing where you have installed the Blu ray player.

The Bose DVD player on our boat is in the side of the aft section of the dining settee.  I can't control it with the remote without leaning way over which is a long stretch when I am comfortably tucked in the corner.  It's low and out of the way but it does not upconvert to 1080P.

I'd like to get a larger TV but our 32 inch Sony is a pop-up so we are limited unless we modify the opening and probably move the lifting mechanism to port unless some sort of offset can be fabricated for the bracket that holds the TV.

Is your Samsung 32 inch LED a 1080P?

I'd also like to add an Apple TV and wireless headsets.

Right now I can view whatever is on the E120, chart, radar, Sirius weather, on the TV but I would like to figure out how I could also get that same input to a small netbook or small TV in our cabin so I can monitor things when I am off watch on a passage.  Perhaps someone on this forum has already worked that out.

As for power to run all the toys, etc.you mentioned, in addition to the generator, I have added four 135 watt solar panels on the Kato Arch.  They can't run the vented (if you want your clothes to actually dry) washer/dryer my wife wanted (and I use and like) but on a sunny day they really help when we are not on the grid.

Installed DVD under the nav station, which is tight on legs sliding in
and out, but was the least instrusive location.
The remote bounces the signal around the nav area, and seems to work
fine.

The Samsung is the new 1080 version. Fixed mounted on the bulkhead
wall forward of the dining settee.
The wires are fed from the forward head, run behind the mirror, and
through feed holes drilled behind the TV.

As for output from the E120 to a Netbook or the like. Haven't thought
this out yet. I'm sure somebody has....

Too much technology.....

David, thanks for the info.  I already have a CD changer under the nav station that I bump into so I'll have to find somewhere else.  If I stay with a 32 inch TV there should be enough room on what is left of the shelf to the left of the TV for a Blu ray player.

Your right about too much tech.  I still have to find a place for an Apple TV and wireless headsets.
