All,

I tried to re-use the boarding steps I'd used with my 461, but at about 20" tall they were too short to be comfortable for some guests. Unfortunately every alternative in the marine world had a top platform that was too small after being accustomed to the roughly 20x20 top platform of the old steps. Worse, the marine prices were ridiculous, topping $700 for steps as tall as my freeboard and with a shoebox sized top platform.

Today my custom alternative steps arrived, and I'll upload a picture. I had them built to custom measurements, 34" tall ( a little shorted than my 54's side decks at our home floating docks), with a top platform 26" wide and 32" deep. I added the expensive extra options of a fully enclosed back and bottom. Total price? $175 plus shipping. Shipping to get them to NYC from Florida cost more than the steps themselves.

For anyone in the US, I had them made by. www.eandefiberglass.com who normally specialize in steps for mobile homes and rvs, and said they'll custom build to any dimensions desired.

I don't know how well they'll hold up, but they seem sturdy and the top platform is luxuriously large. The gelcoat is an aggressive nonskid in a slightly warmer offwhite color than I'd expected, in case that matters to anyone.

Hi Mark,
Thanks for the photo and sharing you solution, I just use a TaylorMade
triple step with a hand rail, sees to work OK, not as wide as yours
though! I paid about $180 for the steps and $80 for the hand rail. No
shipping.
