RASURA DE REGISTO

Caros amigos do grupo!

Gostaria de entender o porquê da rasura para um mesmo baptismo no registo abaixo:

Observei que na rasura, o cura imputa os apelido "Marques" e "Boteilho" para a mãe da criança e para o primeiro testemunha,respectivamente, diferente do registo acima da rasura. Mas, porquê ele rasurou?

Very interesting. The first record on the left side appears to be for the same person as the second record that has squiggly lines down through it, apparently to disregard that record. Why would a priest or scribe cross off the second record, instead of the first? Some of the information may be different. I have a hard time making out all of the details in both records. Maybe someone else can shed more light on this.

Mother: Antonia da Costa

Parents' parish: Agua Retorta

Godparents: Felipe Correia & Maria da Costa (husband and wife)

Witnesses: Manuel da Silva & Jose Vieira

At the bottom:

Infant: Francisco

Father: Antonio de Pimentel

Mother: Antonia Marques

Parents' parish: Agua Retorta

Godparents: Felipe Correia & Maria da Costa (husband and wife)

Witnesses: Manuel Botelho & Jose Vieira

In Agua Retorta, the surnames Pimentel and Costa were the most common. Perhaps the record at the bottom half of the page actually referred to a different couple, but I am inclined to think otherwise, so I also find it odd. We can only speculate. In any event, I'd disregard the record at the bottom.
