Hi all, sorry for this is my first message in this group. On the underlinked baptism of João, son of Manuel Jacinto Antunes and Luisa Bernarda (on the left side), does anyone know what the ledger note means/is referring to? I ran it through Google Translate as my Portuguese is not too good, and I am still unsure. If anyone has any input, it's greatly appreciated!

Muito obrigada a todos ^^

The margin note reads "1.a verba extrahida em 14 de Junho de 1823 [signed]  (modern spelling without abreviations: Primeira verba extraida em 14 de junho de 1823)

Google translate offers this as "first sum extracted on June 14, 1823" but I suspect "verba" is actually a more flexible word.  In this case it probably just means a legal certificate was made of this record on this date.  There are many reasons a certificate might be needed such as inheritance, getting married, getting a passport, for examples.  There are probably many other reasons.

I hope this helps.

Verba means "what was said". i.e. "words".
