Death of first husband on 1863 Agua Retorta marriage

I'm trying to make out where Rosa's first husband died which is on line 5 on the right side. "sepultado no cemiterio de ?? ?? ?rio de janeiro?, e natural desta freguesia"

I can't find his death in Agua Retorta; does it say he died in Brasil?

I'm guessing he was buried in the Caju cemetery of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Cemitério do Caju is a popular name for one of the biggest necropolis conglomerates in Rio de Janeiro. It may also be referred as Cemitério São Francisco Xavier in some records.

Manuel Medeiros Sardinha is actually my 2nd cousin five times removed, through Jose Sardinha and Rosa Vieira. José Furtado Sardinha and Ana de Medeiros Frias (m. 8 March 1780, Povoacao) are my 5th great-grandparents. From what I have seen, a number of their grandchildren moved to Brazil.

Hello Guilherme. Jose Sardinha and Rosa Vieira married 26 Aug 1765 are my 5th great-grandparents but I am having trouble linking them to Manuel Medeiros Sardinha. I descend from their son Manuel Furtado Sardinha married to Maria Barbosa or Medeiros. I do show that they had a son Jose in 1779 who married Ana de Medeiros or Frias on 28 Sep 1803 but I'm not finding the the 8 March 1780 marriage you refer to.

The parents of my great grandma are Francisco Peixoto de Mattos (b. 6 May 1841, Candelária, Madalena), and Rosa de Medeiros Silva (b. 4 July 1846, Nossa Senhora Mãe de Deus, Povoação), married on 6 November 1866, São Francisco Xavier, Rio de Janeiro.

She is the daughter of José Furtado Sardinha (b. unknown) and Maria de Medeiros Silva (b. unknown, probably in Água Retorta), married on 5 May 1838, Água Retorta, Povoação. Any further details on this couple is welcome as I did not manage to find their birth dates.

His parents are José Furtado Sardinha (b. 9 April 1779, Água Retorta) and Anna de Medeiros Frias, (8 March 1780, Faial da Terra), married on 28 September 1803 in Faial da Terra, Povoação. Sorry, I switched their marriage date around :)

OK got it! I found the marriage dated 5 May 1838 but it probably took place in 1839 like the marriages on either side of it.

I have also made the connection from Manuel de Medeiros Sardinha to our common ancestors José Sardinha and Rosa Vieira. This is through his father Antonio de Medeiros Sardinha, then his father João Sardinha, who is son of our ancestors José Sardinha and Rosa Vieira.

This has been a very informative exchange for me and I appreciate it greatly.
