Hello, I have trying to find any information regarding an ancestor of mine named Florencio Ferreira Drumonde (Drummond), possibly known with Coelho as well but I am not sure. I know that he was married to a woman named Beatriz da Gloria Ferreira and in their marriage document, it refers to Florencio as having been emancipated in December of 1906 but I am unsure as to why he would have been emancipated because he was already 18. I have been able to find online that there would have been paperwork in regards to his emancipation but have been unable to locate anything else regarding this topic for him.

Hi Natasha.  I believe the age of emancipation at the time was 25 years rather than 18.

On that marriage record it says the bride was 18 and her parents were present to give consent.  The groom was only 20 but didn't need consent because he had emancipation from his mother (father was deceased) by an order dated 13 Dec 1906.  If that order exists, it would be likely filed as a judicial process at the archive in Angra.

Oh I didn't know the age of emancipation was so much older than. I have tried looking for it, but I have struggled to locate it. I will continue to search. Do you know what reason someone would have to emancipate themselves? I dont really have much knowledge on that. Thank you so much for your help!!

Thanks,
Natasha
