Looking for baptism record of João Furtado Homem born in Faial da Terra, S. Miguel in the mid-1700s

Hi,

While investigating my direct maternal line, I've stumbled upon a roadblock. My 5th great-grandmother, Margarida Rosa was supposedly born in Faial da Terra, circa 1787. Her parents were João Furtado Homem and Maria de Sousa, based on her marriage record (she married Andre Carvalho in Sao Jose, Ponta Delgada) and her death certificate. However, I cannot find her baptism record, nor her parent's records. I've considered all possible combinations, including the possibility that her father was actually João Furtado Pimentel, son of another João Furtado and Maria Pimentel. João Furtado Pimentel married a Maria da Silva. Since the names Silva and Sousa are similar, that's the most likely possibility. 

In short, I think that my 5th great-grandmother is Margarida, daughter of João Furtado Pimentel e de Maria da Silva/ Sousa, born in 1773 (see record attached to this email). However, based on her marriage record, she was supposed to have been born in 1787, with a 2-year margin of error since the priest also miscalculated her husband's age by 2 years, assuming a systematic error.  Could she have lied to her fiancee and priest because she was marrying a much younger man? I doubt it, since the age gap would be only 10 years.

In Margarida Rosa's and her sisters records, the recurring witness is Francisco Furtado Homem. Once again, I can only find a Francisco Furtado around the same time and place. But after spending countless hours combing through the records of Faial da Terra, as well as Agua Retorta just in case, one by one, name by name, I am ready to give up on this line. 

If anyone can help me, I'd sure appreciate any assistance. I am new to genealogy research, so I am really sorry if I am not providing information as I should.

Does anyone have a common ancestor or more insights into any Joao Furtado Homem of Faial da Terra? Unfortunately, Furtado was a very common name in the area.

on the record you attched the parents of Margarida are Joao Furtado de Pimentel and Maria da Silva.

Of course I meant to say you sometimes have to look in both villages find your ancestors.

Joao Furtado Pimentel is aka Joao Furtado Homem filho de Manoel Furtado Carvalho or Homem and Maria de Pimentel; Yes this is the correct Margarida. One sees this often regarding Faial da Terra and Agua Retorta. If you can't find something in one village look in the other and sometimes in Povoacao and Nordeste.

Thanks for your prompt reply.

This is the only record of a Margarida who was born in Faial da Terra around that time and whose parents were a João Furtado (Homem or otherwise) and a Maria. This is as close as I got. Then again, we all know that siblings sharing both parents often had different surnames. But you are probably right, and Margarida Rosa is not a match with the record that I attached beforehand.

I am attaching the marriage record and death certificate of Margarida Rosa to this email. In both records. She is my only ancestor from my maternal line who is not from Ponta Delgada. I have no other relatives to reference here.

You wrote "Manoel Furtado CARVALHO or Homem" below.  I have him in my tree but don't see any records with "Carvalho" in the last name.  Do you have a reference for this?  I think I might have found his marriage (14DEC1735 Faial da Terra) and want to confirm.

I think you're right, I have no idea how it got there. I think the marriage of Jose Furtado Pimentel cc Maria Carreiro is incorrect also. Did not find it. I couldn't find the marriage of Antonio furtado and Barbara Cabral either. Not in Nordeste or Faial da Terra.
