Interesting Record from Ribeirinha 1859

I don't need any help with this record from Ribeirinha, Sao Miguel but, it does have something I haven't seen before. I have another sibling from this family but it does not have this.  Just though I would share it.

Is it the record on the left you refer to?  Maria whose father is absent in a foreign country (país estrangeiro).

Yes it is the record for Maria.  Google Translate gave me the word stranger. so I read Maria's father Joao de Sousa was absent and a stranger.   Something was lost in the translation.   I think Joao de Sousa was in another country but usually they would name the country, Mostly I have seen Brazil. I have seen a lot of strange things in this set of baptismal records from dates out of sequence to completely wrong names.  

I just checked my analog translator, my old hard covered Portuguese - English dictionary and it gave me Foreigner or Foreign.
