Hi everyone,
Great to see a community like this so active :)
I'm currently on a mission to find more background on my great grandfather,
"
Antone Furtado Madruga.." I've been able to uncover quite a bit with
ancestry.com and my grandmother who is 99, but were hoping to get a baptism record to strengthen my father's pathway to citizenship.
I came across Tombo.pt as most have noted in this group, but has anyone had experience contacting them directly about retrieving records? Is it best to do it over the phone vs email and how long is the typical response time? Is there a language barrier if I only speak english?
Separately, I would love if anyone here could potentially add any information on him. Here's what we know:
He was born near Lajes de Pico around 1872. His mother passed when he was a 3 months old and its very possible he didn't know his parents or his own age upon immigration. He arrived in 1895 when he was 23, where he dropped the "Madruga" name and was known the rest of his life as Antone Furtado Sr. He married Mary (Marian or Mariana) Furtado in 1903 in Mission Santa Clara and stayed near Campbell until his death in May 1937. He had 7 kids in all with extended family residing in San Jose, one of them being my grandmother Bernice Furtado, who was born in Campbell.
One of his brothers, Francisco F Madruga, arrived to Suffolk, MA in 1907-1910. His wife came here in 1910 and they had two kids, Annie and Frank Furtado where they settled in the Suffolk/Boston area.
Anything helps. Thanks all!
