Hello all,

My great-grandfather Manuel Machado de Borba was baptized at São Lázaro, Norte Pequeno, in 1868. His parents' children's baptisms (1866-1882) place the family on the "Canada de trás da Igreja", the lane behind the church.

On that lane there is a roofless two-storey stone house, about 75 m behind the church, known locally as the Carmo house and once the parish post office. Local accounts say a priest owned it before the Carmo family bought it.

Has anyone worked with Calheta property records (matrizes, Décimas, inventários orfanológicos) or the SJGS confession rolls for Norte Pequeno, and could point me to where a chain of ownership for one house could be traced?

Thank you,
Jack Borba, California
