MORE REASONS TO AVOID DRINKING & DRIVING
If killing maiming innocent people was not enough to avoid drinking
and driving, recent laws passed by the Florida Legislature will ensure
that the financial costs to those convicted will be steep in the form
of higher insurance rates.
All of us assume that a DUI conviction will increase our insurance
rates. But did you know that a conviction now requires that the
convicted maintain liability limits of $100,000 per person and
$300,000 per crash?
This law applies to all convicted or those entering pleas of guilty or
nolo contendere to DUI after October 1, 2007. The violator’s
insurance company will be notified of the DUI conviction and will be
required to notify the state if the violator fails to maintain the
required insurance limits. If the violator does not maintain those
limits, the state will suspend the violator’s driver’s license.
There are a multitude of reasons to not drink and drive. This is just
one of those many reasons.
