As I'm sure you've noticed, we've been getting spammed lately. I am reporting them when I see them - which removes them from the group, but this is after you get notified that they are there. Some are getting caught and put in pending and I delete them without the list seeing them.

If anyone has some insight about why this is happening now or what to do about it, please post here.

I am thinking about changing the group from "Anyone can join" to "Anyone can ask". Any thoughts?

Hello,
just a speculation, but there was a very similar incident recently on a completely unrelated mailing list (few weeks ago) hosted by googlegroups, there could be a spam-wave targeting this platform.
The mentioned mailing list eventually moved to groups.io since its owner lost his access to the administration of the group, plus googlegroups has been doing other weird things in the recent years, I can't join any gg mailing list with my primary eMail address hosted by Protonmail, our mailing list also started refusing eMails containing any links, even if they were legitimate traffic.
So, changing the server is something I wouldn't object to. Groups.io is quite developed in this regard, but there are other options, too.

Best regards

Rastislav

Sounds like a great idea to me!

Requesting access is a good idea.

Are you saying that you can't post messages with links in this group? I haven't tried it lately, but I've done it a lot in the past.

Are you saying that you can't post at all on Google Groups using your Proton email address? I had an account there, but just dropped it.

I think that you should be able to post here if you access the group as a listserv. That's how I always do it unless I need to do admin tasks. I read and reply to everything using Thunderbird as an email client. I send emails to autoke...@googlegroups.com  from my non-gmail email account.. I don't remember exactly how I set it up years ago, but I'm sure we can figure it out.

We have a lot of users and a lot of message history here, so I'm reluctant to make big changes unless really necessary.

We also have other places to connect. https://github.com/autokey/autokey/wiki/Community (Let's see if this link works.)
I started to post this and it popped up asking me if the email link was OK.

The main one is Gitter/Matrix which is pretty capable, but has some issues of its own. We usually use Gitter for more advanced topics, but we can use the existing room or I can setup a new one for general interactions/support.

I'd switch

however

I started switching members a SMALL local user forum to groups.io.
Trouble was that most of the members didn't respond to the request to
confirm they wanted to join the new group. So we have to include both
addresses in new outgoing mail. Of course, those who didn't respond
may have decided to drop out and could't be bothered unsubscribing.

I'll have to check, but I think I added the groups.io address as a
member of the gGroup.

One major problem with gGroups is that they no longer support it -
unless that's reverted and I didn't notice.

I've had a few instances of my mail to a group dropped to spam - even I
am a manager.

The groups I have set up are owned by a gmail account with a name
similar to the groups, eg autke...@gmail.com. The gmail account that
owned my local forum also owns their groups.io account. I realised
early on that if I owned using a personal email I could not pass it on
when I want to retire.

So I'd suggest people who want to swap say so here so that Joe (and
anybody else who wants to help manage the process can see if it's
viable. OF COURSE that means moving to another group mail - not
necessarily groups.io I know that one of the suggestions I had was a
games platform and I couldn't figure out how to use it as a mail group

For what it's worth, I've moved to espanso. It's more than enough for
what I want and simpler to add new shortcuts - just edit one file and
save. The program auto senses the change immediately. And less qt
libraries on my gtk system
