How do you personally contruct dialogue of your characters in novels?
I'm trying to find an effective way of them speaking. How Holden
Caulfield used to say lots of 50's style phrases such as 'strictly for
the birds' or 'it killed me'. So far my lead character says 'what do
you think of that?' or when she's been corrected for being too honest
she says 'well, I have to tell someone, don't I?'
So, are these 'phrases' good enough or do they need more impact? (It's
a murder story and the person who says it is the murderer)
