1.) Happy Summer

The Cage will be closed for the summer. This will be the last newsletter written by me (Sarah).

Warm Regards,

Cage Director
-------------------------------------------------------------------
2.) LOCKERS!

Lockers are helpful for storing personal belongings and your personal film and editing accessories. If you want a locker, it’s an easy 3-step process:

1.) Pick the locker you want, put a lock on it and IMMEDIATELY
2.) E-mail the CAGE (ca...@austin.utexas.edu) with Your Name, your E-mail, locker number, and classification (undergrad, grad, staff, faculty, etc.)
3.) Put the $20 check or $20 cash in an envelope in the CAGE mailbox (CMA 6.118) with your name, e-mail, and locker number on the front of the envelope.

Lockers cost $20 for the semester, $30 for a year if paid all at once and $10 for all graduate Teaching Assistants.

The Cage will be allowed to bill your locker dues to your What I Owe page. If you would like me to bill you to your What I Owe, please send me your name, EID and locker number.

NOTE: Staff and Faculty each get one free locker but they have to let the Cage know which locker it is so that the lock doesn’t accidentally get cut.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
3.) Can’t get enough of the Production Resource Center?
Well, as some of you may or may not know, the Cage is on Facebook, and Twitter! The Cage facebook is a great way to reach out to people directly.

5.) Seeking Director of Photography - Cameraman - Lighting technician

Date Needed:            May 31st - June 15th
Contact Name: Philip Kreyche
Email:            pkre...@gmail.com
Phone:            512-422-5705
UT Affiliation:            College of Liberal Arts

Description:            My name is Philip Kreyche, and I am working to put together a short science-fiction film currently titled "Future Night." Here is a brief pitch for the film: "A.D. 2017. It's a cold night in Metropolis 2, in a retro-dystopic future where heavy metal rules, the police are ever-present, and the most important resource is computer data. A cyborg data thief, Naoko, has escaped with her most recent steal. Trying to lay low on the streets, she meets another young woman, a lonely young punk named Jun, who's instantly attracted to her. To avoid the police, Naoko uses Jun as cover, and they spend a night on the town drinking and shooting up with the latest drug. Naoko's attraction to Jun grows, but the fact that she's only part-human makes her doubt if the relationship could last. Their short-lived romance must face the final question: what makes us all different, and does it matter?" The film takes place in a low-tech future inspired by 1980s cyberpunk and sci-fi aesthetics. Think leather, torn jeans, floppy discs, neon, mohawks, shoulderpads, and punk rock. The plan is a 3-4 night shoot sometime between May 31st and June 15th, depending on cast and crew schedules. Please email me with any inquiries or resume submissions if interested.

We believe this is truly a terrific opportunity for filmmakers who are just starting out to give their projects a professional finish and get their film into top distribution channels.

Selected movies will receive up to $100,000 in funds, and filmmakers will be provided the opportunity for distribution through the Bloody Disgusting Selects brand of horror films, which includes cult favorites Rammbock: Berlin Undead, The Woman, and YellowBrickRoad.

The submission period is rolling and information and forms can be downloaded at http://bloody-disgusting.com/finishingfund/ <http://bloody-disgusting.com/finishingfund/>

Optimal film candidates for selection will be nearly finished and feature length (70-110 minutes).  Awarded funds would be designated for post-production needs including sound mixing, scoring, securing music rights, color grading, computer graphics, editing visual effects, or other post-production needs. Film submissions should fall into the horror, sci-fi, thriller, suspense, slasher, cult, fantasy, supernatural, or found footage categories.

This can be used to print up to an 11x17” poster – perfect for hanging up around campus and getting the word out to interested students!

“We are very excited to support the next generation of talented independent filmmakers who are creating work outside of the Hollywood system. We believe this new breed of filmmakers are the future of genre filmmaking,” said Gary Binkow, Partner at The Collective.

The film finishing fund is launching on the heels of the success of another Bloody Disgusting produced feature, V/H/S.  Prospective films chosen to receive finishing funds, such as financing, would be contingent on Bloody Disgusting and The Collective participating in its ownership, distribution, and marketing.

27.) Looking for a good crew member/partner

I am currently seeking a Crew Member/Business Partner. I recently started a new business venture to break into the adult film industry and I'm looking for a helper. I would like someone with knowledge of at least one of the following: Camera Operation, Directing, Marketing, Photo Editing, or Video Editing. I say business partner as well because if you are willing to help out with shooting costs, I would be interested in becoming 50/50 partners. I am currently operating completely solo, but if I had the right help, I know we could make good money together.

37.) Seeking student filmmaker

We are looking to produce a short (5 minutes or so) video which will serve to as an “informational short” for internal company viewing only.  We would like to film at 2 inside locations (both here in Austin) and the filming would consist mostly of interview blurbs and office footage hosted by a narrator.  The actual filming would probably take a day or two, and I have no idea how long the editing process would take.

We felt it might be a fun project for one of your capable students to perhaps use as a portfolio filler, and we are willing to pay for their efforts.  We would require the person to provide their own camera/editing equipment.  Some sort of school recommendation and/or references would be required to make certain the scope of the project is within the capabilities of the student.  We would be willing to start the project immediately.
I look forward to hearing from you and I thank you for your time.

Fringe [film] is an opportunity for both established and emerging filmmakers to exhibit their work in a festival environment in the very heart of fabled Hollywood, CA. Fringe [Film] seeks eclectic, experimental, and bold work that pushes the envelope of the film medium.

Fringe [film] selects projects from both established and emerging filmmakers. Emphasis will be placed on films that haven’t received mainstream industry attention. Each day we showcase a different category of film. Films do not need to be LA/US/World premieres.

The festival runs from June 14th – June 24th, 2012.
