Call for Papers – Interdisciplinary International Graduate Summer Course

“The impacts of digitalization on science and society in the quest for more sustainable futures”
Donostia-San Sebastián, July 6-10, 2026

The PRAXIS research group at the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), the Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology), and the Käte Hamburger Kolleg: Cultures of Research at RWTH Aachen University are pleased to announce an International Summer School for PhD students entitled: “The Impacts of Digitalization on Science and Society in the Quest for More Sustainable Futures.

Organizers: Stefan Böschen (RWTH/Käte Hamburger Kolleg Cultures of Research), Bettina‐Johanna Krings (ITAS/KIT), Andreas Lösch (ITAS/KIT), Hannot Rodriguez (UPV/EHU), and Sergio Urueña (University of La Laguna).

About the Summer School
This Summer School offers PhD students the opportunity to further develop their dissertation projects in a stimulating and supportive international environment. The program is designed to foster intensive scholarly exchange, critical discussion, and constructive feedback on participants’ ongoing research. Through a combination of formats—such as lectures, individual presentations, and interactive workshops—the Summer School will provide a rich intellectual experience and a space for collaborative learning across disciplinary perspectives. In addition, the setting of Donostia–San Sebastián offers an ideal context for informal interchange, networking, and engagement with experienced scholars and fellow doctoral researchers.

Eligibility and Application 
The Summer School is open to PhD students at various stages of their dissertation projects. Applicants are invited to submit, no later than February 15, 2026, the following documents:
  • An abstract (maximum 3,000 characters) outlining their PhD project, with particular attention to:
    • the background and relevance of the problem addressed
    • the main research questions
    • the methods and theoretical approaches adopted
  • A short academic CV
