On
behalf of Honorary Event Co-Chairs Catherine Anspon and Carol Issak
Barden, media sponsor Papercity, and the entire Art on the Avenue
Committee, I would like to invite you to participate in Avenue
Community Development Corporation's 12th Annual Art on the Avenue,
Saturday, November 8, 2008. Through the fantastic support from artists
and donors, Art on the Avenue has continued to grow every year. Now
more than ever, we need your help to achieve Avenue CDC's ambitious
goals for the upcoming year. In 2008, Avenue CDC's goal is to develop
14 quality affordable homes for purchase by low-income families. Each
home costs approximately $110,000, and our goal for the event is to
raise $220,000 to make these homes more affordable to our low-income
buyers. Proceeds from the sale of your artwork will go to support
Avenue CDC's non-profit mission to provide affordable housing and
community development in Houston's Near North side and Washington Ave.
corridor while also supporting you as an independent entrepreneur. Last
year's Art on the Avenue event paid out over $48,000 to participating
artists.
Media
sponsor Papercity will help showcase your work to a wide and expanding
audience. We anticipate 1,200 guests at this year's events, set for
Saturday, November 8th at Winter Street Studios. A Preview Party will
also be held November 6th, for special guests and collectors.
Please
consider submitting a piece of your most marketable artwork to our
Silent Auction. You can select the level of contribution you would like
to make to Avenue CDC. We ask you to determine the minimum opening bid
for your work. Then select, in advance, the percentage of the sale you
would like to donate to Avenue CDC: 25%, 50%, 75% or 100% of the final
sales price. Each donation (whether your work sells or not) comes with
complimentary admission to the Saturday, November 8th event. We'll also
offer a "Buy Now" price for each artwork to encourage motivated buyers
to secure their purchases on the spot! Proceeds of "Buy Now" sales will
be split by the same formula described above. "Buy Now" prices are
typically double the minimum bid, or full market price, but Avenue CDC
reserves the right to establish the "Buy Now" price, taking into
consideration your recommendation.
Art
on the Avenue has always been an inclusive event, with over 250 artists
participating last year. This year, we hope to have more participating
artists, but also more display space for each piece. Therefore, we are
limiting the number of pieces from each artist to one piece over 36" in
any dimension, or two smaller than 36" pieces. Help us help you by
submitting your most marketable work. Art that sells the best is
typically of modest scale and affordable price. Be sure to send us your
bio, brief artist statement, and collectors list so we can include them
in our mailings! Deadline for inclusion in press releases and printed
material is Sept. 1, 2008. Delivery of artwork will be Saturday,
November 1, 2008, from 9:00 am until 3:00 pm to Winter Street Studios,
2101 Winter Street. All artwork must be ready to hang (Avenue CDC
reserves the right to not display work that is not of professional
quality or ready to hang). Should you decide to participate, Mark
Parthie will be corresponding with you with additional details.
Thanks!
