Letter to President Ahmad Al-Sharaa
Greetings of knowledge, culture, achievement, and history,
We extend our greetings to you, and through you to the great Syrian people, who have fought one of the longest battles of liberation against a repressive and brutal regime.
I was among the first free intellectuals who engaged in defending the Syrian people, leading a campaign that lasted for months in 2009, when I served as President of the World Arab Translators Association (WATA).
At that time, I refused offers from the former Syrian regime to halt the campaign, and I was later subjected to significant harm due to my advocacy and support for the Syrian revolution—costs I continue to bear to this day.
Today, we follow with hope the dream that Syrians are living after liberation, and we are confident that they will build a prosperous state founded on freedom, dignity, and justice.
In recognition of you, your struggle, and the struggle, sacrifices, and martyrs of the Syrian people, the Executive Council of the Arab Translators Association has decided to honor you by awarding you an Honorary Doctorate.
We hope this recognition will be regarded as a historic and enduring milestone worthy of the magnitude of the sacrifices and the greatness of the achievement.

رسالة إلى الرئيس السوري أحمد الشرع
تحية العلم والثقافة والإنجاز والتاريخ،
نحييكم، ونحيّي من خلالكم الشعب السوري العظيم، الذي خاض أطول معركة تحرر من نظام قمعي دموي.
لقد كنتُ من أوائل المثقفين الأحرار الذين خاضوا معركة استمرت شهورًا للدفاع عن الشعب السوري عام 2009، عندما كنتُ رئيسًا لجمعية المترجمين واللغويين العرب (واتا).
ورفضتُ عروضًا من النظام السوري البائد لوقف الحملة، وتعرضتُ لاحقًا لأذى شديد بسبب تحريضي ودعمي للثورة السورية، ولا أزال أدفع فواتيرها.
إننا نتابع الحلم الذي يعيشه السوريون الآن بعد التحرير، ونحن على ثقة بأنه سيبني دولة مزدهرة.
تقديرًا لكم، ولكفاحكم، وكفاح الشعب السوري وتضحياته وشهدائه، فقد قرر المجلس التنفيذي لجمعية المترجمين العرب تكريمكم ومنحكم الدكتوراه الفخرية.
أرجو أن تعتبروا هذا التكريم حدثًا تاريخيًا خالدًا.
