Any thoughts on e-z tape Flame Fighter Fire tape? Our code enforcement department is not a fan. I have a contractor wanting to use it on a fire wall. My first inspection it was not installed properly and was falling off the wall. The second was better but I'm having my doubts. Any input will be appreciated.

Fire wall?
Fire Barrier?
Fire Partition?
Is it a UL listed wall?

Duane and all,
These are some good questions here, but most importantly you would need to know if what is being installed is an actual tested assembly. If it is, when looking at an installation of a fire rated assembly, whether it is a fire resistance rated wall or a floor ceiling assembly, the tested design will dictate the type of materials to be used within the construction of that assembly.
The parameters called out in the details of that design must be followed in the field, or the fire resistance rated assembly being built will be outside the construction parameters tested and there would not be test data to support the use, or installation, of materials outside those found within the tested system. These parameters include the type of joint covering that is required by the design. In short, refer to the design for the requirements for the taping and mudding of joints and what type of tape should be used.
If you want more information here is a link to UL Product iQ, (www.ul.com/piq) here you will find our tested assemblies and much more. You will have to sign up for an account but as an AHJ it’s free to use it and to save searches too.
If you have other questions related to this or any other fire resistance questions please feel free to contact me so I can help further.
