We are pleased to announce the first private screening of the new movie by VisualPeaceMedia: Dance the Past Into the Future. This is a very special event with very special movie. The movie will be premiered this summer at film festivals before going in to the theaters. We will have the opportunity to see it first in this private screening with the producer Mario Mattei. There will also be Q&A session after the movie.

The movie will be shown at the same place we always have our movie screenings: ASU Tempe Campus LSE Building Room 104. Free parking is also available at the LDS parking structure.

DANCE THE PAST INTO THE FUTURE is a (45 to 80 min) documentary about three generations of northeastern Turks finding and fighting for a well-rooted, shared identity amidst an onslaught of technological and societal change. It is set in the lusciously green highlands and tea-harvesting villages of the Kachkar mountains.
The film follows the Laz and Hemshin Turks who still return to these serene highlands in the summer for traditions such as livestock migration, the energetic Horon dance, the Vartavor Festival, Tulum bagpipe music, and residency in handmade wooden homes. Their lives are contrasted to the younger generation who—other than vacations—have migrated away from ancestral lands to the metropolitan, concrete-dense cities of Turkey to pursue education and work.
Through personal narratives and cinematic imagery the film explores the tension that exists in all developing nations between the longing for meaningful roots and the seemingly irresistible pull of technology, education, global connection, and economic opportunity. These societal shifts and transitions are happening now, and fast.
Dance the Past Into the Future documents several cultural practices before their extinction. Among the three generations straddling the not-yet-forgotten past and the globalized tomorrow, the film uncovers a unified voice of those finding hope in one particular dance tradition that could stand alone as the primary catalyst for ongoing cultural identity, communal peace, and the celebration of life.

Sosyal ve ekonomik kuvvetler, Türkiyede bulunan Kaçkar Dağlarında ki yaylaların geleneksel kültürünü hızla değiştiriyor. Şuanda üç nesil henüz unutulmayan geçmişin ve küresel bağlantılı geleceğin arasında kalır. Hangi kültürel özellikler kalacak, hangisi yok olacak ve hangisi modern bağlamda yeniden tanımlanacak? Geçmişin Gelecekte Dansı kesişme yerinde yaşayanlara halklarının tarihini ve geleceğini belirleyeceği sesi verir.
Bu sorunlar Türkiyenin yaylalarının kültürünü aşar ve modern insanları ilerleme pahasına karşılaştırır. Bir çok batılı kültürler etnik ve ata köklerinden tam ayrıldığı gibi hissetmesi konusunda zaten tecrübelidir.
Geçmişin Gelecekte Dansı enerjik Horon dansı,Vartavor festivali, Tulum muziği, yaz aylarında dağlara göç eden hayvanlar, el yapımı ahşap ve taştan geniş aile evleri ve geleneksel kıyafetler gibi bölgesel farklılıklara görsel bir tanıklık sağlar. Filmimiz günlük yaşamda önemli olan terk edilmiş mimari yapıları, turizmin nasıl yerel ekonomiyi tanımladığını ve Facebook'un rolünü gösterir. Belgesel hikayemiz ayrıca beton evlerin ve hidro elektrik santrallerinin çevresel ve psikolojik etkisini gösterir.
Bölge insanları kendi rolünü Kaçkar geleneklerinin ortaya çıkan hikayesinde ve modern yaşam tarzında açıklar ama gelenekleri nasıl yaşatacakları hakkında emin değiller. Onlar kendilerini ve bölgeyi tanımlayan külürel faaliyetlerde, bu faaliyetlerin nostaljik gösteri ya da devam eden geleneklerin olup olmadığını kamerada gösterir. Bu geleneklerin nasıl aktarıldığını, unutulduğunü, ya da şehirleşen nüfusa alıştığını açıklar. Bazen onların aksi çabalarına rağmen kendi türünün sonu olduklarını görürüz.
Geçmişin Gelecekte Dansı bize seksen yaş üstü dağ yamaçlarında ki el yapımı evleri, sırtında ki sepetlerde elle topladıkları sebze, çay, ve fındıkları gören son yaşayan tanıkların hikayelerini gösterir. Ayrıca iş ve eğitim için Karadeniz sahil şehirlerine göç etmiş genç nüfus ile karşılaşıyoruz.
