CARD has some good (and funded) trainings that I think that we should help to promote. CARD has trainings that can help more than just "the Autistic population".

INCLUSION WORKSHOP
FIN and CARD are teaming up to provide training for families on the
continuum of inclusion and how to plan collaboratively to make inclusion
sucessful for your child. Have you been told your child is not ready
for inclusion, or perhaps that inclusion for your child means being in
the same air-space as non-disabled children? Is that all that is
available for your child? Find out more at this exciting, free weekend
seminar (see Exploring the Continuum handout below, or call CARD for
details).

FREE PARENT SEMINARS FROM CARD
Free CARD parent trainings will be held at the CARD center from
6:30-8:30 on the dates above. REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED: Call 407 737
2566 to register. Topics include:
FCAT: Strategies for Success
Will your 3rd Grader be retained if he doesn't pass the FCAT?
Florida law stipulates that students who fail the reading component of
the FCAT must be retained in 3rd grade, regardless of progress in other
areas. Is there anything you can do about it? Not after the fact-you
must be ready in August to plan for any eventuality.Test accommodations
may be needed for your child's success, or you may need an alternative
format for showing his ability to read. Join us for a discussion and
overview of options and strategies.
PLAY SKILLS
Join us for an overview of the development of play, and how to move
your child along the continuum of play, from "dump and spread" to
fantasy and role play. This session is part of the New Kids on the
Block series for parents of preschoolers with ASD and those recently
diagnosed.
Welcome to My Strange Little World
This overview of Asperger's Syndrome is designed for teachers, parents
and administrators to learn more about what makes the student with
Asperger's Syndrome different, how these differences display themselves,
and what you can do to support the student and build new strategies to
deal with this perplexing disability.
Autism Overview
This seminar will provide basic information on what autism spectrum
disorders are, what we know about what causes them and how they are
diagnosed, and what to do to get started with treatment. Families new
to the diagnosis, including grandparents and relatives over the age of
12 are welcome.
