Release the Muslims from Lebanese Prisons

Hundreds of Sunni Muslim detainees remain in Lebanese prisons after spending ten, fifteen, and in some cases even seventeen years behind bars without final judicial verdicts being issued in their cases.

Keeping individuals imprisoned for such lengthy periods without final judgments is a grave injustice and a violation of the principles of justice and human rights. No legal or moral justification can be offered for detaining people for a decade or more without bringing their cases to a final conclusion.

Therefore, we call upon the Lebanese authorities to:

1. Immediately release detainees who have spent many years in prison without final judicial rulings.

2. Issue an official apology to those who have suffered injustice, as well as to their families.

3. Provide fair compensation for the years of detention, suffering, and lost opportunities.

4. End any discriminatory, political, or sectarian practices in the administration of justice.

A state that allows people to remain imprisoned for ten, fifteen, or seventeen years without final judgments cannot claim to uphold justice or human rights. Lebanon will not be able to achieve progress and prosperity as long as sectarianism and selective justice continue to influence state institutions.

إطلاق سراح المسلمين من السجون اللبنانية

لا يزال مئات الموقوفين من المسلمين السنة يقبعون في السجون اللبنانية منذ عشر سنوات وخمس عشرة سنة، بل وسبع عشرة سنة في بعض الحالات، دون صدور أحكام قضائية نهائية بحقهم.

إن احتجاز الإنسان لسنوات طويلة دون محاكمة أو حكم نهائي يمثل ظلمًا فادحًا وانتهاكًا لمبادئ العدالة وحقوق الإنسان. وإذا كانت القوانين والإجراءات القضائية تفرض عدم إبقاء الموقوف دون حسم قضيته خلال مدة معقولة، فإن استمرار هذا الواقع لعقد أو أكثر لا يمكن تبريره بأي شكل من الأشكال.

لذلك، فإننا ندعو السلطات اللبنانية إلى:

1. الإفراج الفوري عن الموقوفين الذين أمضوا سنوات طويلة في السجون دون أحكام قضائية نهائية.

2. الاعتذار للمظلومين وعائلاتهم عما لحق بهم من أضرار ومعاناة.

3. دفع تعويضات عادلة للمتضررين عن سنوات الحرمان والاحتجاز الطويل.

4. إنهاء أي ممارسات تمييزية أو سياسية أو طائفية في تطبيق العدالة.

إن الدولة التي تسمح ببقاء أشخاص في السجون لعشر سنوات أو خمس عشرة سنة أو سبع عشرة سنة دون أحكام نهائية لا يمكنها أن تدّعي احترام العدالة أو حقوق الإنسان. ولن يتمكن لبنان من النهوض والتقدم ما دامت العقلية الطائفية والانتقائية تتحكم في مؤسسات الدولة.

الحرية للمظلومين، والعدالة للجميع.
