Hey all, just wanted to share a great dive site in SoCal if you're
ever down there looking to dive.
Last weekend, my buddy and I went to Leo Carrillo State Park just
north of Malibu. We weren't expecting much, and the waves were a bit
large, so we just went in for some freediving. Water was a balmy 70
degrees, and visibility turned out to be nearly 40'. After an hour of
seeing some pretty awesome fish and rocky reefs, we decided we had to
grab our scuba gear. In two dives over the course of the afternoon, we
saw several rays, guitarfish, horn sharks, smooth hound sharks, a
swell shark, half dozen leopard sharks (including one massive five and
a half footer). And countless fish and some amazing crabs.
And there was no one else there except a half dozen people just
lounging on the beach. It's only about 35' deep until you get way out
there. In short, awesome.
