Hi, I am JCordes and I am currently running the (Im gonna say official
here since Adrian is going to help. Yeah you read right Adrian the
creator of Shadows of The Apt is going to be working and creating on
my wiki) Shadows of The Apt wiki. I have started it now and it is
coming along slowly but surely. Unfortunately, I am only a one man
team and I am in dire need of more help if I want to get this wiki
dine anytime soon. I want to get people recruited here for staff on
the wiki and to relay any of Adrian's ideas, questions, or concerns. I
hope that like me you are very interested in the series and want to
get more people interested as well. Email me and I will start talking
to you about what I need and you can tell me what you are good at.
Here is the website address: http://shadowsoftheapt.wikia.com/wiki/Shadows_Of_The_Apt_Wiki
I hope to see you soon. Also, this is a place for discussion concern
or ideas for anyone!

I'm willing to help as much as I can.

I'm currently most of the way through a re-read of Empire, which I started so that I could try to draw some maps with dotted lines for routes and arrows for armies and stuff (this turned out to be harder than I anticipated...)
Anyway, I could do something potentially useful, like create a page for each named character I come across?  With things like which books they first appear in and their kinden and stuff?

Yes that would be great. Currently I have been making a basis of some
information that is about the whole world, time, and technology the
story takes place. So, characters would be very helpful!

I can get you word docs (or whatever you prefer) of cast lists from
those books that have them - and there's a blog post that gives a cast
list up to book 4 - doesn't include characters from the shorts though.
Where would be easiest for this to be sent?

That would actually be quite useful, thankyou.  Word is reasonably user-friendly format.  Unless anyone particularly objects, I'm happy to receive it at this e-mail.

I realise this may be a bit cheeky, but I suppose there's no harm in asking.

Would it be possible to get a link from your Blog page to the wiki home, not to mention the Google group page?

I believe that every character named in Empire has been added, in brief, to the wiki.  If anyone feels like fleshing them out, it would be great.

For my next step, I'll try to create all the Red links.

I'm talking to our website guy to allow the addition of prominent
links, and the wiki should be one of them.

Roderick Easton is now the first ever Administrator on The Shadows of
The Apt Wiki. I want to thank him for all the help. I am sorry I have
not been on much lately. That is because I am writing a book for a
competition called Nanowrimo. It's where you write 50,000 word novel
in a month. The entire time I have been preparing.

That NaNoWriMo seems to be very popular. Even my US editor is on it.

So - as well as the info you've put in on the characters, is it OK to
begin adding brief non-spoiler bios for them. Is obviously going to
be a work in progress for a long time, but if that fits with what you
envisaged, I'd like to make a start on it - and obviously it's open to
any editor to add the info.

How non-spoilery do you think it needs to be?  I've put some things on that might be considered a spoiler for Empire in Black and Gold, but I was kind of considering that by the time someone comes to the Wiki, they'll have got that far.

Actually, in a more thorough note, there ought to be a spoilers policy for the wiki in general.  I'll need to investigate whether there's any sort of way to hide text in this wiki, maybe having bio info for each book concealed separately, so that you can check out only what you ought to know...

I'd just have something at the top of each article:

This article contains spoilers through ________ (Book X of Shadows of the Apt).

I have asked out webmaster to put in a link to the wiki on the main
page of Shadows of the Apt.

For Spoilers, you could also have something in the body of the text -
perhaps individual paragraphs with spoiler headings for different
books, if the character merited that much detail.

Hi guys
I haven't got a wikia account, and am not the techiest of people, but
I'd like to help. Probably I'd best be useful in collating artwork;
having an account on most artwork sharing sites, it would be easy for
me to keep an eye on them and collect links to images that appear. I
could then forward these via email to anyone who wants to upload them
to the wiki (assuming this is something you guys find interesting/
useful!)
Cheers
Sarah

Hi and welcome!

That sounds cool. I've been surprised at the relative lack of kinden
art, there are some wonderful characters, IMO. I'd love to see a
picture of Gaved, for example, or skater-kinden.

I've actually persuaded a friend (I think) to try drawing a claw, as
used by Tisamon, since I don't think I've seen an accurate
representation of it yet.

I completely agree and it's always nice having new faces around the wiki for a change

:)
ok,I'll start a thread up on this group and keep adding links I find
to it.

The claw would be bloody difficult to draw!I still have trouble
conceptualising it, and how it moves.

Here's my understanding of the claw (and I may be wildly off, if so, please correct me). I'm not sure how much of this actually came from the books, and how much was just my mind trying to figure out exactly how this thing would work.

There's a leather bracer around the forearm. The claw itself is attached to the bracer by a hinge near the wrist. The back of the claw extends up a bit into the palm, and there's a bar poking through the end that would be grasped by the ring and middle fingers. When so gripped, the back of the claw ends up seated between the same two fingers.

It's arranged so that the claw is folded flat against the arm when you bend your fist forwards (towards the inner arm), and when you bend your wrist fist back out that extends the blade into a striking position. With your wrist unbent, the claw would probably be something like 60-90 degrees from your forearm.
