Hi all

Happy New Year!

There are a number of characters we have met that have not had their
kinden explicitly stated, although a couple of them could be guessed.
I'm looking for any opinions.

Gaff, of the Arcanum: Looks like a fly, and can produce flame, like
Bob Hoskins in the British Gas adverts. Firefly?

Sef: Looks like a spider, lives in a lake, can gather air around
herself. Water Spider?

Master Saltwheel: Looks like a beetle, lives in a lake. Water Beetle?

Saltwheel Minions 1: Large, pale, with odd claws, lives in a lake.
Water Scorpions are actually not much like scorpions and aren't
actually scorpions at all. Crayfish are small freshwater crustaceans.
Too little known to be sure.

Saltwheel Minions 2: Small, hunched over, apt. Sound like flies.
Too little really known.

As a side note. Of the mythical kinden that are mentioned in
"children's stories" we've met all of them, except the Centiped Lords
from underground. I wonder when they'll turn up?

You'll learn more about Sef, Saltwheel, and Saltwheel's cronies in The Sea Watch.

And I'm sure the centipedes don't exist. Everyone knows they're just a myth. ;)

I've read Sea Watch, and I don't think that the ones you are talking
about live in Lake Limnia. The big one is described as having the
silvery sheen round it, just like sef did when she was holding the
air, but the Sea Kinden are able to breath water and wouldn't do that.

That's a good point, I'd forgotten about that.

I believe that Sef, Saltwheel, and Saltwheel’s minion get them their
kinden explored in one of Adrian’s short stories. Cities of Silver if
I’m not mistaken. Happy (late) holidays to you all. Sef and Saltwheel
are indeed Water Spider and Diving (?) Beetle-kinden respectively. The
small minions I think we’re called Boatmen-kinden … as in Water
Boatmen. Water Scorpion-kinden are also mentioned in the story, but
don’t appear to be affiliated with the Diving Beetles. If my memory
serves Diving Beetle-kinden fear the Water Scorpion-kinden. I'm sorry
to say I can't recall what the other big kinden were.

I finally got book 6 and 7 for the holidays and have been devouring
them both. I'm about way through book 7 already and found a rather
interesting kinden with which I have no real inkling as to what it is.
It's big, ugly, the Nem fear it, left a big pile of Wasp-kinden heads
for their fellows to see in the middle of the night. Anybody want to
take a stab at this one? I thought it might have been a Antlion-
kinden. Not sure why though.
