Like a number of gamers, I find my fun in various different corners of the gaming world.

Currently, my favourite tabletop wargame is Battleground, a card-based game that plays like an intelligent miniatures game, but doesn't require a new mortgage to afford.  For a fair amount of time, I've been playing about with trying to represent the various armies of the Lowlands and further abroad in a way that they could be played in this game.  I have some relatively strong ideas for some of them: Wasp Empire, Ant City-state, Khanaphes, Spiderlands; but somewhat less concrete thoughts on others: Collegium, Commonwealth, The Many of Nem, Three City Alliance.

Would anyone be interested in discussing this further?

I'd be more than interested. Oh, and have you thought much of
including Salma's Landsarmy? I apologize for adding an extra force to
your heap, but as far as I know that's the only one missing. Again,
sorry.

Yes, I had come to Blood of the Mantis in my re-reading and just
realised I'd forgotten them completely.

Both the apt armies of the Wasps and Ants were relatively
straightforward: we've seen a number of battles involving them and
there's a nice article in the Blog.

I've statted these up in BGFW terms, but am not going to give them all here.

Battleground has 3 classes of units:
Core, a certain part of your army must be made up of units chosen from the
Elite, only a limited number of these can be fielded
Standard, everything else

Wasp Empire

Core
Light Airborne
Medium Infantry (The spear armed ones)
Ant Auxilians (With Crossbows)
Bee Auxilians (With Spears)
Grasshopper Auxilians

Standard
Leadshotters
Lances (I've assumed these are the ones riding Giant Wasps)
Hornets
Sentinels

Elite
Heliopters
Mole-Cricket Auxilians
Snapbowmen

Ant City-state [This is hopefully a generic enough list that you can
do any of them]

Core
Crossbowmen
Swordsmen
Spearmen (Not seen, but it's possible and every BGFW army has access to spear)
Militia (ie, armed non-soldiers)
Scouts (Skirmishers with repeating crossbows)

Standard
Ballistae (Again, not seen, but mentioned)
Cavalry (in the right meaning: on horses)
Nailbow Squad
Giant Ant Swarm

Elite
Sentinels (Ants appear to make less use of these troops than wasps or beetles)
Flying Ant Riders (with two crew and a repeating crossbow)
Battle-automotive (eg the big Sarnesh ones)

Incredible job. My only concern at the moment is whether BGFW would
support naval units. If so then it would be good to add Skater
Auxilians to the Wasp forces. Additionally, if naval units are to be
included then perhaps the Iron Glove Cartel could be made into an
additional force. I loved reading over the bits in book 5 where the
Iteration was involved. Oh, and what of those petard droppers? A few
of the wasp engineers took that up in book 5 and, without looking back
over the other books, I vaguely remember the Landsarmy utilizing Fly-
kinden to do a similar thing. Hm? What else is missing? Ant saboteurs
perhaps? That’s all I have for the time being.

If you’d like I’d be willing to help with any of the others less
defined forces. Right now, I think the simplest one to focus on would
be the Three City Alliance. All that would be is a combined force of
Bee, Ant, and Soldier Beetle-Kinden. I’ll go over the lists you’ve
given me and shoot an email your way with any pertinent changes.

My apologies, I keep forgetting to leave my name at the end of my
replies. I'll do my best to remember from now on.

I have everything I've done so far on a spreadsheet.  Would you like to see it?
