I've recently upgraded to Applix Office 6 (running under Ubuntu 5.04)
and encountered following problem in the Graphics application: when
printing postscript to a real printer instead to file, the application
simply crashes. It writes an empty *.ps file into your axhome
directory. The postscript printing works for word, spreadsheet and mail
without problem. Is there anybody out there using Applix 6 and having a
similar problem and also a solution?
Thanks,

Follow-up on my own thread: the print problem persists and is not
solved (has nothing to do) with the hint given in the Ubunto how-to
(printcap was already there). Here I consider this as a program bug.
Any opinions?

Hello Rudy,

I'm unable to reproduce this problem, but there again,
there are currently 375 different Linux distributions and we only
officially support two, Redhat and Suse Enterprise.
Can you post the graphics file you are using ?
Have you tried running Applixware as root ?

Rudy,

Try this:

1) print to a file
2) lpr -P printername filename

Does this work ?

I tried different steps for printing and found following:
- in word, spread sheet, graphics, macro editor and mail printing works
so far as expected
- in presents it looks like it is a problem with the templates: I
select e.g. balloonsc and printing crashes whole applix suite; I select
lightenc and printing works...
- if printing in presents works, it prints only the template
background; I had added text but this was'nt printed...
- what I said about printing in presents holds true for print to file
or to printer!
So I cannot see any problem in or relation to my printer setup (I'm
using cups) or the existens of a printcap file; it looks more like an
internal problem of applixware presents.

Thomas

Thomas (sorry, not Rudy),

I can't reproduce this problem on Ubuntu 5.10, it sounds like your
installation might be corrupt, some necessary files are probably
missing.

- Did you install as root ?
- Do you have free space in /tmp ?

I suggest deleting the Applixware directory and re-installing
Applixware.

You were right Philip, I don't know how, but something was missed in my
installation (maybe wrong use of tar). After a fresh re-install
printing from presents works. I also switched to English as program
interface in order to get rid of wrong displayed menus (the UTF
problem). But I still have the issue that any added text on my slide
will not be printed...?

Thomas

Good news. I will install Ubuntu 6.04 and see if there is any
improvement.
