I run Slackware 12, and when I try to run applixware 6 home user (in
accordance with README.txt), I get:

<ixware-6-homeuser/axdata/axnlmgrd -c /home/kurt/applixware-6-homeuser/
axlocal/axlicensedat -l /tmp/
axnlmlog
Cannot open "/tmp/axnlmlog" as log file (-1)
freopen: Bad file descriptor

so I put the logfile in my home directory. Then I get

kurt@wanda:~/applixware-6-homeuser$ /home/kurt/applixware-6-homeuser/
axdata/axnlmgrd -c /home/kurt/applixware-6-homeuser/axlocal/
axlicensedat -l ./axnlm>

...and there I'm stuck. What am I doing wrong?

This may or may not fix your problem.

First off issue the command "hostname" or "uname -n" to get the
hostname of your computer.

Second see if there is an entry for the hostname in the /etc/hosts
file, if not add a line (for example):

127.0.0.2 hostname

to /etc/hosts and save the file.

The license manager should work now.

Applixware 6 hasn't been tested on Slackware, so problems might arise.
That said, the Home User version can only be installed as root as
indicated, as the onl installer creates the correct license.

Did you run the install script? If so, the creation of the license
file failed. You can try running the installer again, otherwise we can
issue you license codes for the Home User edition. We would need your
MAC address to do this. You can also run <install_dir>/axdata/axhostid
- and supply us with the output.
