AntConc issues with context searches

Dear Professor,

I am a PhD student doing research on figurative language in Dickens. I recently downloaded the latest version of AntConc for Mac.

When I try to do an advanced search, I cannot search for 'words' within the context search (i.e. I cannot tick the box - I can only tick the 'case' box and the 'regex logic' box) - is this normal?

I am trying to find the expressions 'as (x) as (y)' in Dickens's novels; so when I put 'as' for the search item, I would like to filter for duplicates by putting 'as' in the context words. I hope this makes sense. I have been using the 2018 version of AntConc for a while and this always worked for me; but now it does not work. If you have any advice, I would really appreciate it.

Hi Miriam,

The context search only works with a list of words, which is why the words option is selected and disabled (so that it cannot be deactivated).

You should be able to do the search as you want. Please try it and let me know if you have any trouble.
