Word filters for word cloud

Hi all! 

We're being introduced to ANTCONC in my classes currently. 

We're testing a dialogue that's been transcribed, and the most frequent words in the word cloud come up as the journalists' names. Is there any way to filter out specific words from the word cloud so as not to skew results? 

I found the way to upload a file via the global settings, but did want to check if there's an easier way so as not to have to edit a list and reupload it each time.

Hi,

There are various ways to do this. First, I'm not sure how you are generating the raw word cloud. Are you uploading the dialogue into the scratchpad? Or, are you uploading the dialogue as a corpus and using it a source through the other AntConc tools (e.g. file view, or word list)?

Regardless of how you get the dialogue into AntConc, you can use the Global setting filter option to *ignore* words. I would suggest you create a list of words that you are not interested in, loads these in the global settings, and then generate the word cloud.

Of course, the simplest approach would be to use the scratchpad, and edit the text as you see fit.
