Is it possible to use text tagged by MFTE - Multi-Feature Tagger of English (LeFoll and Shakir, 2025) or MAT - Multidimensional Analysis Tagger (Nini, 2019) in AntConc? Each of these uses POS tags plus additional feature tags related to Biber's (1988) multidimensional analysis on some but not all tokens.

If this can be done, how do I format the text, and what do I need to do when creating a corpus with it in Corpus Manager to view it correctly? In my attempts so far, AntConc has not differentiated between tokens and tags.

Thanks for your assistance,
Zach

Hi Zack,

Can you post a short tagged text of 20-50 words so I can see the output.

Laurence.

MFTE taggged text looks like this:

So_SO
his_PP3m PP3all
concern_NN NNCOG
is_VPRT BEMA
not_XX0
that_THSC THSCother
that_THSC THSCother
people_NN NNHUMAN

I've also tried tab separating word POS and feature tags - some terms have up to 3 feature tags after the POS - but it still shows all POS and features as words in AntConc.

Hi Zachary,

If your files have potentially many tags, I'd suggest you use the AntConc 4.4 new full-regex search feature. It means that you can load a corpus and do full-regex searching on it. The feature bypasses the indexing completely so the results will come back more slowly, especially with very large corpora, but it might be perfect for what you want.

Give it a try!

Laurence.
