Hi,
I have been using PC, and just switched to Mac. I am trying to
install AFR scripts and shelf for maya 2012(Mac), and i can't get this
to work.
I copied all scripts to /username/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/
2012-x64/scripts

Am i doing something wrong here?

thanks

I don't have a copy of 2012 on me.. What kind of errors are you getting when trying to load the shelf?

Hi Jason,
After copying all the scripts to script folder, I dont really get any
errors when i load the shelf. It is just that shelf is empty.
However, i guess i can just do it manually and save the shelf.

thanks

Hm.. Are the commands there but just no icons show up? For example.. If you go to edit the shelf, do you see entries?

Jason, I ran into the same problem on my windows copy of 2012. I've been able to fix it so far, but it looks like the shelf is set for .iff files as the icons, but the included icons are bmp/xpm. Manually replacing the icons does fix things. This is all assuming, of course, that this is the same scripts that came with the old autodesk package. I'm rerunning the whole thing right now and will send updates as I find them.

I've been meaning to redo the shelf with the icon fixes.. actually, in 2012 they can be pngs.  I'll try and get on that. :)  keep sending updates tho, this is great!  thank you!

I put together a updated Maya 2012 shelf zip for ya, complete with
pngs (aside from rename_geo, since that one doesn't seem to be around
anymore), and the fix for the error I found so far :). Let me know if
you want it and how to get it to you (I've got an ftp if that's
easiest).

I also had the problem (windows 7, maya 2010 and 2012)of the shelf
loading but no Icons. I tried manually adding the .bmp icons and
saving the shelf. This would do the trick until I restart maya. Then
the icons were gone again. I found that changing the shelf name to
anything other then "AnimationFriendlyRigging" would save the icons
properly. Tested this on both 2010 and 2012.

Initially I googled the problem and found that the global proc for the
shelf script was "global proc shelf_AnimationFriendlyRigging2 () { "
and that caused it not to load properly. So the solution was to take
the 2 out of the line or rename the shelf script by adding the 2. But
I checked the more recent shelf scripts and they did not have the 2 in
the proc, but I still had the icons not loading. This is when I
changed the shelf name in maya (to AnimationFriendlyRigging1 even
tried changing it to bob) and that seemed to fix it. I still had to
manually load the icons but they would save properly.

Hope this helps any :)

That's one of the fixes I made--I turned it into AnimatorFriendlyRigging. Glad to hear it's not just on my computer :)

the scoping comments we just addressed this morning :)

It looks like 2012 is picky on some things that previous versions of
Maya were not, so it's not just you :)

I sent an updated shelf set to Jason, so we should have those updates
fairly soon I'd imagine (when he has time to get them on the site)

I just redid the icons in .sgv format. I can send you a zip if you'd
like.

The problem is within the scripts.  It has to be!  I have parallels on my MAC which allows it to act as a virtual machine using windows.  I put everything in the right directory using the MAC and even loading the scripts and putting them on the shelf manually the scripts will not work.  My buddy told me it is because they have a windows c+ or c++ thing.  If they were scripted with Lynux, that it would work for the MAC.  I don't know much about this stuff, but when I load the shelf onto Maya using windows on my MAC/Parallels it works perfectly fine.

Hi Sean,

Are you using the original scripts that came with the book?  If so, with Maya 2011 there were some changes that broke most of them.  I have a new version of the shelves in an old post on the forum that works.  Just search my name and it should come up (although it's in a post from Jason).

Patrick,

While your friend is correct that tools compiled on linux might work on Mac, that's not the case for Maya plugins.  Mac, windows, and Linux are all separate compiles.  With that said, all of the scripts we use here for AFR are written in MEL, which works across the board--it's a language that's internal to Maya, so it's not platform-dependent :)

Hope that helps,

Joe
