Tell Interior Secretary Salazar that struggling polar bears can't wait any longer. With extinction looming as soon as 2050 for Alaska's polar bears, the Interior Department must reverse the Bush Administration's "polluters-first" policies quickly -- and grant the polar bear the full-fledged protection it so desperately needs.

Please send a message now calling for immediate polar bear protection.

Edited Sample:

Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar

Dear Secretary Salazar:

You have inherited a failed Bush Administration policy on polar bears that I strongly oppose. It is riddled with loopholes that would allow global warming pollution and Arctic oil exploration to continue unabated while the polar bear is in mortal danger. This policy cannot ensure the bear's survival. It must be changed now.

The scientific evidence is overwhelming that rising temperatures could cause two-thirds of the world's polar bear populations, including all of Alaska's polar bears, to go extinct by 2050. Polar bears are already drowning and starving. In the face of this unfolding disaster, it is too late for half-measures and polluter exemptions.

Please act now to close the polluter loopholes and give the polar bear full-fledged protection as an endangered species. I also call on you to devise a recovery plan that will protect polar bear habitat against global warming pollution, oil and gas development, and other threats.

The plight of the polar bear is urgent. We can still save this magnificent species, but the window for action is closing rapidly. Please act immediately to pull polar bears back from the brink of extinction.

Sincerely,
