Regarding Night Jumps…

Thanks everyone for the support.   We are working out a bit of a pre-manifest (yes we are!) for the night jumps.  Those that have emailed us already thanks…  Even if you have already emailed please can you email AGAIN in final confirmation with the following information per person:

Please confirm by email to SkyDive.R...@gmail.com

·         Name and License Nr.

·         Have you done night jumps before and what exactly did you do?

·         Your current club / CI?

·         Have you jumped at Rustenburg in 2011?

·         What types and how many jumps do you want to do - night and day?

·         Everyone must please be at the DZ ready for the briefing 16:30 for 17:00.

·         Please have your log book and license available at the briefing should it be required.

Everyone is welcome to jump at SkyDive Rustenburg the entire weekend.  Atlas Angel Uriel during the day, we have a C-210 for the night jumps and might bring in other aircraft as required.  Anyone that wants to bring along an aircraft for us to jump out of, please let us know.  Those that haven’t jumped at SkyDive Rustenburg in 2011 make sure you get the required jumps in and signed off during the day.

Please organize your own lumi sticks, headlamps, torches, duct tape, warm clothes, neck warmers etc…  will try to have some lumi sticks available on the day but still best if you bring your own as well.  If you are staying over please ensure you bring your own sleeping comforts and accessories…

There has been a lot of interest for these night jumps so we might have quite a few people staying over – best come prepared!

== Chief Instructor Graham Field’s Comment ==

With the night jumps happening @ Skydive Rustenburg this weekend here are a few basic things to remember

- Keep it simple on your 1st few night jumps, they are a unique and fantastic experience and don’t need to be made complicated

- Open higher and make sure you have discussed landing patterns and separation within your group

- Land normally with a conservative setup, your depth perception is affected by low light and there is usually little or no wind @ RSC at night so expect fast landings

- Pack normally and use gear you are familiar with, your parachute doesn't know that its night so fly it and pack it like you would for day jumps

- Make sure you have all the illumination items required - lumi sticks on altis, a torch to check your canopy etc. We will light up the landing area sufficiently for safe landings

- Wear warm comfortable clothing but dont bulk up, its winter and will be cold esp those doing jumps from a higher altitude

The briefing is at 1700 on Saturday, its going to be dark and cold, be there and be ready.

== Something Historical Awesome and Extra, for those that read all the way to the bottom of these informative emails! ==

Peter Hazlehurst read about our night jumps at Rustenburg and kindly sent in some clippings from a 1960 copy of “The Brandwag Magazine” featuring himself performing a night parachute display at the Rand Flying Club New Years Party 1959 / 1960 where he exited the aircraft 3000ft overhead the party 10 seconds before midnight.

Can you imagine jumping into that party!  The start of the 60s…  Those folk sure knew how to party!!!

I will post some of the historical clippings Peter has sent me on the SkyDive Rustenburg / SkyDiversity Face Book Group...

Rock  on…
