== Last Weekend @ SkyDive Rustenburg – 9th and 10th April ==
A nice relaxed weekend with a good mixture of Fun Jumping, Tandem Introductory Skydiving, and partying... Welcome to the latest influx of visiting skydivers. Henk from Swakopmund and Brando, thanks for coming out and playing with us in the skies. Glen and your team, its great having you around.
On Saturday we had 2 Atlas Angels at SkyDive Rustenburg when Llewellyn paid us a visit with ZS-WXK “Nathan”, the 6th Atlas Angel in the aircraft program. A few of us flew off to www.Zebula.co.za for the Annual SAA Fly Away / Mini Air Display. Those of us that are PRO Rated did a quick Parachute Display, and we returned for a nice sun set jump and impromptu party back into SkyDive Rustenburg. So nice to be able to do these things in support of fun aviation orientated events in the area. Thanks Zebula for the invite and hospitality.
Graham represented away from home, flying the UD Trucks and the Nashua Parachutes, performing an inverted display out of the Good Year Pitts Specials and a night jump just before the fireworks at the UD Trucks Ermelo Airshow.

== Equipment ==
Once you have graduated from AFF you should start getting your own equipment – things like your own jump suit, goggles, altimeter and helmet will make you that much more comfortable and help you look cool... Which equates to better skydiving!
Icarus Air Wear in Edenvale is well worth a visit, has a special on the Parachute Systems Votex II, and always has an excellent range of new and used equipment on the shelf ready to buy. Manny will also give you his honest opinion and advice. www.Icarus.co.za
== Chief Instructor Graham Field’s Comment ==
We seem to rehash this all the time but please check handles, pins, puffs, BOCs, Tandem drogue & bridles before you get in the aircraft, after you have boarded and sat down, at 1000ft, just after you have turned around at altitude and a quick final feel of everything as the door opens. At exit time don’t bump others and don’t rush into your position - move positively and slowly into position in the door and climb out into your exit position calmly and without dragging yourself along the floor or against the door and the door opening. Premature deployment of parachutes - mains or reserves over the tail or hooked on tail wheels, on the wrong side of the strut or wherever are one of our worst nightmares and can and will kill you and your mates.
Before boarding make sure your closure loops are the correct length, are not frayed or worn, your reserve pin is correctly seated and has not been pushed too far in or extracted partially. Check the lengths of your reserve and cutaway cables as per the manufacturer recommendations - don’t just swop out reserve and cutaway assemblies as they are generally sized for your specific system. I have seen some reserve pins almost pushed through the closure loop by the reserve flap when its opened for inspection so be aware. Check your bridle is routed correctly and there is no excess sticking out from the closure flaps to snag anything while climbing out or that can be extracted accidently in freefall as well.
Please also remember that in 99% of aircraft emergency situations you have the option of 2 perfectly good parachutes on your back so get out and use one of them... ;)
== First Time Jumpers ==
