Happy Wednesday!
Thanks everyone for the massive interest and support, as well as all the positive feedback we keep receiving at SkyDive Rustenburg.
Please make yourselves welcome, keep up the support, and take advantage of the good energy coming out of SkyDive Rustenburg at this time.
We need the support of Sports Skydivers of all levels of experience and with all kinds of ratings and licenses to get involved at SkyDive Rustenburg to keep this energy going… and growing!
This is a great time to get involved at SkyDive Rustenburg and to be involved in Skydiving in South Africa generally.
== Quote of the Week ==
“WOW, we should do that during the day as well” - Jaco.
== Last Weekend @ SkyDive Rustenburg 28th and 29th May ==
== Red Bull X-Alps ==
On Friday evening a few of us went along to the friendly and lively gathering / fund raiser for Pierre Cater and James Baird who have again made the stringent selection for their second participation in the Red Bull X-Alps. All kinds of useful “as used by Pierre in training” items as well as sponsors donated items were auctioned off at bargain prices with the proceeds going towards this seriously grueling, exciting, thrilling and spectacular challenge they are about to embark on… for the second time!
On 17th July, 31 Elite Paragliding Athletes will race (hiking and paragliding) non-stop day and night come sun or snow, across the Alps for 14 odd days. Starting in Salzburg Austria, going past the Matterhorn in Switzerland, then over Mont Blanc in France, and ending up on the beach in Monaco they will race a straight line distance of at least 864km.
Each super fit, super talented nutter entrant can be tracked live throughout the ordeal… Best of everything to you guys for this one!
Any offers of last minute financial contributions / donations to the very high costs to participate in this event will be directed to Pierre Carter. The largest cost they still have to cover is the support vehicle costs.

== Night Jumps ==
An normal ops Saturday, supplemented with the rolling in of the masses from as far away as Eston and even Chad for the organized night jumps. Due to the interest (and having friends we can call on) we were pleased to be able to confirm the PAC 750XL for the night operations. Some people even got their first Atlas Angel and PAC 750XL jumps in on the same day! 16 people did their first night jumps, there was a bunch of night 2Way and 3Ways both FS and FF, as well as even some night Wingsuit Rodeoing and night Hybrids. We managed 5 PAC night loads and a total of 55 night descents. Proper dark with no moon, the last load exited pretty much on midnight.
Night jumps take quite a bit of planning and organization and it all went down super chilled and stress free with no off landings or incidents. Text Book Stuff… Well done everyone, thanks for the support and for treating this privilege with respect.
After a party until 4am with groovy laser lights and sweet music courtesy of our Paragliding and, recently recurrent (from the Bullets Boogie), Skydiving Friend Craig Pyl (who we dragged over from the Friday Night Red Bull X-Alps Fund Raiser Party the night before), Sunday was understandably a late start and in our normal relaxed fashion we wrapped up the weekend with some Chilled Sunday Fun Jumps.
== Progression ==
There is massive amounts of progression happening at SkyDive Rustenburg of late, with a number of people doing their C-License tests and applying for their C-Licenses immediately after the organized night jumps. Gerrit Olckers got his B and C Licenses within 6 weeks of each other, Jaco and Nico (Novice 2Way FS Gold Medal Winners) both have all the requirements for their C-Licenses, they just lack the jump numbers – and both did their first night jumps on their 1 Year “Sky Day” Anniversary Graduation from AFF Weekend! Congratulations Everyone, it is great to be a part of, and to help out with, so many people’s progression in the Sport of Skydiving!
We are proud to say that SkyDive Rustenburg organized the night jumps in the interest of Sports Skydiving and made a whopping R4 per slot from the night jumps! Please can everyone ensure they are fully paid up with everything as otherwise we have to chase you… and that’s no fun!
We also congratulate SkyDive Rustenburg’s Core Pilot - Pieter Pilot - on flying his 100th Atlas Angel hour! Awesome!

== Chief Instructor Graham Field’s Comment ==
Thanks to everyone for keeping it safe and having fun @ the Night Jumps on Saturday - you all made my job easy. Whether you are landing in the night or day and whatever conditions you are faced with remember to fly your parachute all the way till your feet touch the ground and you run-off your landing. Pilots have a saying that if they are faced with a crash situation is best to fly the aircraft as far into the crash as possible and the same applies to landing your parachute - you are the driver and are in charge so take control. Don’t blame your gear for bad landings - good gear helps but it’s the Archer not the Arrow in the end ;)
