Happy Tuesday…

Some unseasonal cold windy wet and snowy weather has justified a “Significant Weather Warning”.  By the weekend though all looks to be good for skydiving again.  Winter mostly brings fantastic conditions for skydiving and parachuting!  These past few weekends at SkyDive Rustenburg the weather has been absolutely perfect for us to punch holes in it all weekend long.

Committed to Sports Skydiving, and anything fun in the sky generally, we have the capacity to handle much more of what we are currently doing and achieving.  Come enjoy, and support what we are up to.  Quite simply, if you are not coming out you are missing out and we are going to keep having all the fun without you!

It is also generally more pleasant weather-wise on “the other side” of the Magaliesberg!

== The Inevitable Slot Price Increase – Immediate Effect ==

Sorry folks, despite all efforts to keep the slot rates for Club Members and Sports Skydivers as cheap as possible, the slot rates at SkyDive Rustenburg are increasing with immediate effect.  Start saving all your nuts, beans and seeds, uproot all your pretty looking plants (except sun flowers), let algae grow in your swimming pool and lets go Biofuel!

Here is the deal (with immediate effect):

·         Slot Rate for Club Members (Full Member or Daily Member) Exit Altitude Minimum 10 000 ft AGL, target 11 000ft = R 240.00

·         Slot Rate for Club Members (Full Member or Daily Member) Exit Altitude 12 000 ft AGL = R 260.00

·         The 9th slot in the Atlas Angel may be provided at no charge, for specific purpose (i.e. Team Training Camera Flyer) and by prior arrangement, at the discretion of the Club Chairman if the conditions permit and all concerned are in agreement and happy.

·         SkyDive Rustenburg Club Members may request Books of 10 Jump Tickets at R 230 per Jump Ticket.  Pre-purchased Jump Tickets are not transferable and must be used at SkyDive Rustenburg within 4 months.  Offer ends 5th July 2011.

·         With some magic (for now) we have managed to keep the price of a Tandem Introductory SkyDive, including Edited Video, Still Photographs and Certificate, at R 2 100.00

·         A Tandem Introductory SkyDive without Video and Stills remains (for now) at R 1 600.00

·         Accelerated FreeFall Course Prices are also under review and will be finalized shortly.

Whilst it is our goal to give as much altitude as efficiently as possible and at as low a cost as possible you all know that we cannot guarantee exit altitude.  You have our word that we will always do our best with what we have at any one time.

Commitments have been made by 15 airline companies around the world to use an alternative aviation fuel as well as to divert around Rustenburg that we can have uninterrupted use of the airspace for skydiving!

== Last Weekend @ SkyDive Rustenburg 4th and 5th  May ==

This past weekend we fought off 2 surprise fires attacking from different sides at different times, both of them threatened to take out our lovely groomed landing area and thatch chalets!  We are convinced that the one fire was caused by sparks of passion that flew when Natasha read “TROU MET MY” on the flag flown by Andre Nel.  Despite the raging fire all around Natasha said yes!  Congratulations to you both, well done Andre for making it happen and getting your, now extended, family together in the same place at the same time.

Meanwhile, Herman’s themed Divorce Cake might have been the catalyst for the other fire! -  Thanks Karen for this explosion of creativity in the confectionary department, and congrats Karen on your 400th skydive this past weekend as well!

On Saturday Graham flew off to the Newcastle Airshow for the Tracker Double Inverted Display with the Good Year Eagles Aerobatic Team, and rushed back again in the Pitts Specials to come and do some AFF and Tandems at SkyDive Rustenburg on Sunday.  Thanks G for being able to move so fast and efficiently across the country from one event to another and back to the DZ in time, every time!

Thanks Roger for flying in, out, and up and down all day on Saturday with us, and setting the pace in cool tandem exits.

Much appreciation to everyone that helped fight the fires and made the weekend work.  The Milky Bars are all sold out, go get a beer instead!

Take advantage of the fact that there will be a mass of highly experienced skydivers from all over South Africa that are available to perform high profile, high energy, high speed parachute displays in the area over the period – anyone wishing to have a parachute display occur at their venue for anything specific will need to have arranged this IN ADVANCE and can do this by contacting SkyDive.R...@gmail.com

Check this for an example of a Parachute Display http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kuiznYdozt0

== Chief Instructor Graham Field’s Comment ==

Winter is fire season in our area with cold calm morning conditions that can become windy and possibly turbulent towards the afternoons. If you experience turbulence, especially if you are light and are not loading your parachute much, don’t be alarmed if your parachute bumps around a bit..  fly your parachute normally and try to steer clear of areas above burnt ground or landing behind large solid obstacles like hangers. I find that a smooth carved approach will load your parachute more and decrease the effects of turbulence. Obviously if you are a student then straight in approaches on full drive will give you the best chance of a nice landing and be ready to pull in a toggle and run around your parachute if you are being dragged.

The best advice in marginal conditions is if the senior jumpers are sitting on the ground watching you skydive then there's probably a good reason... ;)
