New Anesthesiologist Assistant Profession

The Anesthesiologist Assistant Program is an incredible life changing
opportunity for individuals who already have a baccalaureate degree in
another field and want to make a career change. The Anesthesiologist
Assistant is a physician assistant specialist in anesthesia.

At the present time, AA's are feeling great pressure from the Certified
Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA's) who feel threatened by their
growing acceptance. On March 31, 2005, Florida's Governor Jeb Bush
signed bill 626 allowing Anesthesiologist Assistants (AA's) to
practice in the State of Florida. Florida performs a large percentage
of the 32 million outpatient surgeries done annually. The first of
three Universities which will be offering an AA program in Florida is
the Fort Lauderdale-based Nova Southeastern University in June 2006,
which will prepare students for the new Anesthesiologist Assistant

I am a graduate of doctor of medicine and am presently a diplomate of
the Philippine Board of Anesthesiology. I am very interested in working
as an AA in your country because of dire financial circumstances in my
country. I would like to inquire as to how I can acquire a
certification or be qualified as an AA to work in your country.

You would have to go through a formal AA training program and pass the
certification exam offered by the NCCAA in order to becom an AA.
There are no provisions for challenging the exam based on previous
experience or non-AA education.
