At the present time, AA's are feeling great pressure from the Certified
Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA's) who feel threatened by their
growing acceptance. On March 31, 2005, Florida's Governor Jeb Bush
signed bill 626 allowing Anesthesiologist Assistants (AA's) to
practice in the State of Florida. Florida performs a large percentage
of the 32 million outpatient surgeries done annually. The first of
three Universities which will be offering an AA program in Florida is
the Fort Lauderdale-based Nova Southeastern University in June 2006,
which will prepare students for the new Anesthesiologist Assistant
