Hi there,
I basically just got my ADP1 a few days ago, and have been reading and
scouring the web on all the information. Looks like there's good
things and bad things about using 3rd party mods like Cyanogen, etc.
Yes,,, I'm very new to this...

So I decided to try it out, since I like the idea of having
application being hosted on the SDcard than on ADP1's internal memory.
So immediately I ran into some problems after going R29, the phone
turned into a Tmobile phone!!! I'm with AT&T... Argh... so I couldn't
even get into the phone to call since the sim card was no recognized.
But got that fixed with the ADB run around.... So the process was
pretty sweet forward with installing the latest Cyanogen's build...
but now I understand what the author meant by GoogleApps are no longer
included in ROMs...

So i'm torn at the moment, I'd like to use the original 1.6 firmware,
but would like applications/cache on the SDcard, how would I do this?

Also, if I decide that I do not want Cyanogen on my ADP1 anymore, how
can I make it stock to ADP1 again, without all that TmobileG1 logo.

I've scoured this forum, but after reading for 2 days, I'm lost with
so many posts threads...

Peace,
thing

Wow, you just like to jump in with both feet without reading, eh?
Good thing you didn't jump into the "DeathSPL" stuff, you'd probably
be BRICKED with no chance of recovery.

The "downgrade to RC29" nonsense is a scheme for gaining root on a
CONSUMER device, i.e. those that are sold by TMOBILE.

You have basically thrown away all the advantages of having a
developer phone over a consumer phone.

You CAN get it back though... you need to go through all the hacker
"root" stuff, install a custom recovery image, and install the
engineering SPL from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=455860

Once that is installed, you can install the radio and system images
from here: http://developer.htc.com/adp.html and you will have a STOCK
ADP1 v1.6.

If in the future, you feel like installing community firmware, DO NOT
do any stupid RC29 nonsense!!!!
This is a good lightweight community firmware modification that will
give you what you are looking for: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=538456

Thanks for reply, really appreciate it. Been reading more now, but the reason for jumping into it is that I've been bed ridden for 2 months now, I got assaulted with a baseball bat, & I still can't read for long, my head hurts.... since I got hit in the head, jaw split in half, etc, etc.

My point is, with any hardware I've bought & developed on? There's always a failsafe firmware to get back on, guess not for the ADP. The only reason like I mentioned was to be able to run applications on the SDcard. But it took a 3rd party modded firmware in order to do that... & the bad timing with CM & google having "issues".. yes I've started to read again, slowly...

My ADP is up & running with 1.6 but firmware is still the same as before. I'll try your process out, thanks a lot, this is the only way I can "work" at the moment, since I'm still in recovery...

Thanks again,
Z

Ouch. Hope you can recover from that without permanent problems.

The device is most definitely equipped with a "failsafe" firmware....
the engineering SPL I mentioned.
Problem is that you overwrote the failsafe -- which can be done on ANY
device.
The RC29 nbh file was never meant for consumer use. It is an internal
firmware that was leaked by someone working inside of HTC, hence the
damaging effects that it can have on any device it can be installed
onto. If they found out who leaked it, you can be certain that that
person has been fired for leaking it.

During normal firmware writing, the components that can be written are
the RADIO IMAGE (which oddly enough, is a lower level firmware than
the SPL), SYSTEM IMAGE, KERNEL, and RECOVERY IMAGE. The SPL always
remains the same, and in fact, with the dev/engineering SPL, there is
no reason to ever rewrite it.
