Hi everyone,

I seem to have lost 3G connectivity after updating from 1.1 to 1.5.
(edge / wifi still works).
It's highly unlikely that my carrier's equipment is at fault.
(although I can't test right now)

Is there anything I can do from adb shell to diagnose the issue?

Maybe I should try downgrading radio back to 1.1 ?

maybe you lost the APN setting for your provider?

Well that too,
so I entered my APN info to try and get at least some connectivity,
and EDGE works nice and slow over the APN just as it should.

But, 3G doesn't.

Okay, couple of hours later,
Tried with a different carrier, that should have 3G coverage - doesn't
work.
Downgraded radio - still no 3G
Tried various combinations of carrier/radio/(1.1,1.5) - no 3G.

What do I do now ?
How do I diagnose the problem ?

Do you have access to another carriers SIM?

I know here in Australia - we have fairly major outages or network
interruptions (particularly on Optus / Singtel) that last several
hours, and makes it very hard to tell if it is a handset related issue
or carrier related.

I also know from working with / hacking iPhones, I have damaged
several SIM's. I am not sure how it's done, but on several occasions -
I have performed a failed upgrade and then the SIM would not work
correctly and had to be replaced. To be clear, I have not seen this on
an Android - but it is worth considering.

If you could tell us where you are located, what carrier you are using
and what carrier settings you are using - somebody else on the list in
your location may be able to confirm the operational status of the
network at least.

Troy Kelly

It started working again this morning, I was shocked.
As for the what was wrong, I blame it on the gremlins.
At least I had a chance to learn a bunch of android tech in the meantime.

Thanks everyone,

The phone seems to be in 3G mode much less since the upgrade to 1.5...
the phone seems to sit in "E" until I actually actively use the
data... that might be a way the phone is trying to conserve battery.
