Pudiera pensarse que hoy día es más fácil que antaño la
emigración, viajar y conocer mundo, trabajar y establecerse por cierto
tiempo en otras latitudes. Pero no es así. Hoy día la soledad del
viajero es mucho mayor, y la solidaridad al emigrante menor que antes,
cuando los paisanos de la colonia ayudaban al recién llegado...
Nosotros los argentinos siempre tuvimos una visión sesgada y
ambivalente de la emigración: Nuestra opinión pendular se extrema
entre los que se sienten defraudados por quien emigra, como si de una
traición a supuestos principios patrióticos o nacionalistas se
tratara; y por otro lado los que critican todo lo que les ha formado,
de su país y de su tiempo, y se cubren con un manto de olvido del
pasado, como una defensa para afrontar con más fuerza de ánimo la
distancia y el dolor de emigrar. Para nosotros, los hijos de las
culturas de los inmigrantes que engrandecieron nuestra América en los
siglos pasados, para los que recrearon las herencias colonial
española, inglesa, francesa y la mestizaron con la indígena o
telúrica, fruto del espíritu primero de América toda, para todos
nosotros, debiera ser el hecho de la emigración como un andamiaje
constructor de nuestra estructura que nos sustente y alimente.
Nuestra visión del mundo, especialmente en estos años que asoman a
una concepción global de las culturas y sociedades, idea ésta de la
globalidad que inexorablemente llegará, a pesar de las resistencias
varias, a todos los rincones del planeta, debe contar con una
consciencia clara de la trascendencia histórica que significa el flujo
y reflujo de la gente por el mundo, que produce el progreso de las
ideas, abate las fronteras mentales, transforma las ideologías,
descubre el carácter universal de los problemas que antes creíamos
locales, y tienta a la esperanza de una búsqueda mancomunada de las
soluciones.
Esta forma de pensar, esta actitud frente a lo que nos toca vivir, y
este recuerdo del compromiso contraído con lo mejor de nuestro pasado,
será nuestro homenaje a los hombres y mujeres que vinieron a construir
nuestros países en la lejana América de antaño.
Y si el destino nos depara el viajar por el mundo, traeremos algún
día los frutos de nuestra experiencia a la tierra que nos alimentó en
la infancia, para que otros niños tengan un futuro luminoso en
libertad, como quisimos y alentamos el nuestro, como lo quisieron
nuestros mayores, al momento de nacer, al momento de partir.

emigration, to travel and to know world, to work and to live some time
in other latitudes. But it is not this way. Nowadays the traveler's
solitude is much bigger, and the solidarity to the emigrant is smallest
than before, when the compatriots of the colony helped to the recently
arrived one... Us the Argentineans always had a slanted vision and
ambivalent of the emigration: Our pendulous opinion is carried to an
extreme among those that are defrauded by who emigrates, as if of a
betrayal to supposed patriotic or nationalist principles was; and on
the other hand those that criticize all that has formed them, of their
country and of their time, and they cover with a mantel of
forgetfulness of the past, like a defense to confront with more force
of spirit the distance and the pain of emigrating. For us, the children
of the cultures of the immigrants that enlarged our America in last
centuries, for those that recreated the Spanish colonial inheritances,
Englishman, French and they crossbreeded it with the native or
telluric, fruit of the first spirit of America everything, for all us,
it should be the fact of the emigration like a building scaffolding of
our structure that it sustains us and feed.
Our vision of the world, especially in these years that appear to a
global conception of the cultures and societies, we devises this of the
globalization that inexorably will arrive, in spite of the several
resistances, to all the corners of the planet, it should have a clear
conscience of the historical transcendency that means the flow and
people's reflux for the world that produces the progress of the ideas,
it knocks down the mental frontiers, it transforms the ideologies, it
discovers the universal character of the problems that before we
believed local, and it tempts to the hope of a joint search of the
solutions.
This form of thinking, this attitude in front of what plays us to live,
and this memory of the contracted commitment with the best in our past,
will be our homage to the men and women that came to build our
countries in the distant America in the past.
And if the destination affords us traveling for the world, we will
bring some day the fruits from our experience to the earth that fed us
in the childhood, so that other children have a luminous future in
freedom, like we wanted and we encourage ours, as our adults they
wanted it, to the moment to be born, to the moment to leave.
