Message to Professor Richard A. Williams,
Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Heriot-Watt University – United Kingdom

I extend to you greetings of knowledge, culture, achievement, and history,
and through you, I salute the British academics, translators, and intellectuals.

I have known of Heriot-Watt University since I was a student at Birzeit University in the 1980s, when one of my professors was a graduate of this distinguished university. I also used to read in Palestinian newspapers about congratulatory messages to graduates of Heriot-Watt University, which left a deep impression on me and a great احترام for this prestigious academic institution.

Today, I step forward to honor the President of Heriot-Watt University and British academics by honoring you and awarding you this honorary doctorate.

I am pleased to inform you that the Executive Council of the Arab Translators Association has decided to honor you by granting you an honorary doctorate. This is an intellectual, cultural, ethical, and professional doctorate that represents the journey of Amer Al Azem, about whom fifty poems have been written.

I kindly ask you to receive this honor in the spirit with which it is given, and to take pride in it and celebrate it upon the issuance of the honorary doctorate certificate.

I also ask that you consider this message, along with the forthcoming honorary doctorate, as a historical testimony and document for future generations, reflecting a moment of cultural and humanitarian significance rooted in the Palestinian experience.

Please accept my highest respect and appreciation.

رسالة إلى البروفسور ريتشارد إيه ويليامز

رئيس ونائب مستشار جامعة هيريوت-وات – المملكة المتحدة

أحييكم بتحية العلم والثقافة والإنجاز والتاريخ،
وأحيّي من خلالكم الأكاديميين والمترجمين والمثقفين البريطانيين.

لقد سمعتُ عن جامعة هيريوت-وات منذ أن كنتُ طالبًا في جامعة بيرزيت في ثمانينات القرن الماضي، وكان أحد أساتذتي من خريجي هذه الجامعة العريقة. كما كنتُ أقرأ في الصحف الفلسطينية عن تهاني الخريجين الذين تخرجوا من Heriot-Watt University، وهو ما ترك في نفسي أثرًا عميقًا وتقديرًا كبيرًا لهذه المؤسسة الأكاديمية المرموقة.

وها أنا اليوم أتقدّم الصفوف لأكرّم رئيس جامعة هيريوت-وات، والأكاديميين البريطانيين، من خلال تكريمكم ومنحكم الدكتوراه الفخرية.

يسعدني أن أبلغكم بأن المجلس التنفيذي لـ جمعية المترجمين العرب قد قرر تكريمكم بمنحكم الدكتوراه الفخرية، وهي دكتوراه فكرية وثقافية وأخلاقية ومهنية، تمثل مسيرة عامر العظم الذي كُتبت فيه خمسون قصيدة.

أرجو أن تتعاملوا مع هذا التكريم كما أرجو، وأن تعتزوا به وتحتفلوا به عند صدور شهادة الدكتوراه الفخرية.

كما أرجو اعتبار هذه الرسالة شهادةً ووثيقةً تاريخيةً للأجيال، تعبّر عن لحظة تكريم ذات بُعدٍ ثقافي وإنساني فلسطيني.
