Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
We have finally reached the end of our quest regarding Salvation. Today's, example is very special, because unlike the past examples which we used to compare salvation, this talks directly about salvation and is one of the parable which Jesus told his disciples, to explain the "Kingdom of Heaven". Let us read it in Mathew ch 22 v1-14.
"A King arranged a party for his son's marriage, and sent his servants to invite the people. We hear the people refused to come, but the king invites again. The invitees once again rejected the invitation, some even mistreated his servants and killed them. The king then asks the servants to go into the highways, and invite whoever they find. The Bible says the servants went and invited all both bad and good, poor and rich. When they had all come, the King came into see the guests. And he finds a guest without a proper wedding dress? The king questions the guest, asking how he came without a proper wedding garment? The guest is speechless. The king then orders his servants to bind him and cast him into outer darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.
I will try to explain very briefly the main message behind the parable.
1) Let us start with the part where the King sends an open invitation to all people (Mar ch16v15 – Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature).
2) King came into see the guest – Depicts the second coming of Jesus (Mat ch25v31) "When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory"
3) King questioning the guest – Depicts the final Judgment (Mat ch25v32) "and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats"
4) Guest speechless – Because he was guilty.
5) King orders his servants to bind him and throw him, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth – Jesus passes the sentence (Mat ch25v41 – Depart from me, ye cursed into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels)
What a pitiful situation. This guest had all the opportunity to get saved. But he didn't make use of it. What does the wedding garment represent? It represents the change we are to undergo in Jesus Christ.
In Colossians ch3v12, we read 'Therefore as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, long suffering…"
Now all these examples we have so far analyzed, points to the following facts:
1) Because of HIS abounding love towards us, God has already done the major part required for the Salvation of our souls (Death of Jesus Christ on the cross). Without God's grace, we can never be saved.
2)
Our part is to believe (faith) in what God has
done for us, and exercise our faith
through action.
John the Baptist said "bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance".
What does believing and exercising faith means: I will explain this by one simple example: Let us suppose, that I caught a Flu. I have heard from my friends that there is a certain doctor in the city, who can heal my sickness. Now, will that belief or knowledge alone heal me? Definitely not. The only way, I can be healed is by consulting the doctor and taking the medicines and following the advice of the doctor.
In the same way, just our knowledge or belief that Jesus came into the world to save sinners, wont help. The Bible clearly states in James ch2v20 "that faith without works is dead". And again we read in Rom ch2v13 "for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified'
Jesus always required his disciples to "Follow him". Following someone requires an active effort on our side. If we say, we are following him, and don't do the things HE asks us to do, then we are deceiving ourselves. Jesus said "Why do you call me 'Lord, Lord' and do not do the things which I say? – Luke ch6v46".
Christian life is not a easy one. Jesus himself said "ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world – John ch16v33".
For the Bible says in:
James 1:12, "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him".
2 Tim 4:8 "Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing".
Are you eagerly awaiting Jesus second coming?
Are you sure that you will hear Jesus say "Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world".
If not, then please bear in mind, what Jesus said.
"Repent for the kingdom of heaven is at hand – Mat ch4v17"
"Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire – Mat ch7v19".
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven, but he that doeth the will of my father which is in heaven – Mat ch7v21."
Repent before it is too late…
I hope and pray that this discussion blesses your spiritual life. If you have any questions or comments regarding "Salvation", please feel free to write to me.
